Hmm, it appears the I have here that clone are finally dead, with the switch for the birdsite to require login to view tweets. There is an extensive list of alternative weather bots that @lckrohjr and myself have running (the IEMBOT). I am going to swap the bots to pull weather stories/etc., but will be some time. BIGGER ISSUE: NWS TORNADO BOT WILL NOT RUN.

Is the best way to run periodic functions, not necessary time-critical, just needs to happen in the correct hour or day,

I am running a bot in a container, but want weekly or daily things to happen. Adding this to the main loop seems inefficient, because checks will unnecessary be done.

Should I rather use a image, run the script in the container and then just have cronjobs running in the container, rather than using a Python image.

Storage, memory and processing isn't actually a problem, so using a larger and beefier image is possible.

When the MTA announced discontinuing their live subway alerts due to Twitter's new excessive pricing policy, I took it as an opportunity to set up @mtaupdates.

And here's how I made it.

So, are you making Mastodon/fediverse bots yet?

OK, so I got this close 🤏🏾 to getting @videodreams posting again. It downloads images properly and assembles them into a webm video file. But it seems like Mastodon's updated something because now I'm getting the attached HTTP 422 error when trying to post the file.

Nice to know that the code still works, though! I'll have to come back and figure out how to play nice with Mastodon.

Have you ever noticed an account on here labelled "Automated" or "Bot"?

It means the account is a bot, operating automatically without a human doing the posting.

This might sound odd, but there are many useful and entertaining , for example posting sports results or weather bulletins or public domain art. Other bots run interactive games of chess or D&D campaigns or text adventures.

Does anyone have a good post for generating a post bot? All I keep finding never really seems to make a lot of sense.

I've been reading and listening to stuff about how social media works.

Axiom 1: Services must be paid for == There's no such thing as a free launch.

Axiom 2: For profits always want more money.

From 1, we know that some shrug their shoulders about surveillance capitalism and accept that ads pay for things.

From 2, we know that more eyeballs on ads = more money, therefore more people = money = good

I reduced the posting frequency of some of the bots I've made recently, so if you've avoided them before for being too noisy, consider giving them a try now!

Some people put in their profile descriptions to let bot developers know that they don't want to interact with their bots.

Do you, as a botmaker, check for this?

Well this is new. And odd.

Do YouGov have a bot problem they're trying to fix, or are they trying to to gather information about interpreting images?

Very weird question to be faced with at random anyhow.

@AltTextHealthCheck monitors and reports on the percent of images with Alt text.

After checking it out let me know:

  1. Can I format the post better?

  2. Is hourly too often? What would be a good cadence?

So much for can do them quicker than humans •

"For distorted text fields, humans took 9-15 seconds with an accuracy of just 50-84 percent. Bots, on the other hand, beat the tests in less than a second with 99.8 percent accuracy."

puis j'ai fait le bot ce weekend

je vous présente @sharebot1
