I love the Sim City games (ever since I played the original in school in the early 90s!) I recently grabbed Cities: Skylines on Switch when it was on sale for less than $10 and I haven't dived in yet, but I'm psyched to eventually.
But this time, instead of just jumping in and building whatever (as I often do, recently with both the Sim City mobile game and the Sim City on DS), I'm doing some research on city design, to try and build something in a meaningful way. I want to see what designs I really like most, etc. From what I hear about Skylines, it's super realistic, and I should be able to build a cool, futuristic city that's fully green, sustainable, etc.
Anybody else played Skylines or is a big fan of any of the other Sim City games?
Greetings, folks! I've recently moved from [redacted, old news] to this account! Since I can't move my old posts, I'm re-doing my introduction.
I'm a forty-something wife and mother of none, living left of nowhere and north of most of the rest of the population of Canada. I have three dogs, a cat, and a Volkswagen LongGolf, all of which I love dearly.
Je ne peux plus jouer à #CitiesSkylines sur macOS car leur putain de launcher imposé, qui n'a aucune utilisé à part afficher de la publicité, plante.
Ça me saoule d’une force !
Honestly, I pirated #CitiesSkylines2 and I feel a little ripped off.
It's just mostly just #CitiesSkylines with more realistic cars and human shaders.
There are a few QoL improvements that probably make it worth a buy; like being able to buy smaller squares of land, or how water pipes run under streets now.
A bit late, but here's my Stream Schedule for this week! Times in UTC+1.

Adding a bit of variety this week! Going to be checking out RimWorld! Never played it before, although I may play a little bit off stream before Friday. 😅
Hi, I'm clearly new here, so here's an #introduction.
I'm Ariel, I'm 23 years old and I'm a #queer#autistic shitlord (shitlady? Fuck it, abolish the aristocracy, I'm a shit-talking #anarchist) with #adhd. Pronouns she/her.
Pastimes include #gaming and other media consumption, tinkering with my PC (usually trying to fix whatever's gone wrong with my #linux build this time, because I have to fucking clue what I'm doing) and with my #mechanicalkeyboard, saying silly things online and making random vocal stims at my girlfriend.
Interests include #tech, urban planning (actually I really just like #trains, #Walkability, and #citiesskylines) and petty online discourse, except for all the times I think it's beneath me.
i really like cities skylines and city games in general. one thing that really galls me is: a) they released a dlc a year or two back called plazas and promenades that basically lets you make almost entirely car-free cities in the game b) youtubers that play the game basically still just make north american stroad hell in every city
have some imagination, inspire some people. you can literally just not recreate the worst fucking capitalist hellzone on earth in your game videos
The people demanded a fuckton of new shopping areas so I converted a bunch of industrial areas that were too close to the city center, and now the shops are complaining that I'm not manufacturing enough goods and they've got nothing to sell. So now the city's full of abandoned shops and I keep bulldozing the buildings next to them by mistake 💀 #citiesskylines
Cities Skylines 2 lackluster launch can be mostly attributed to the growing pains of a small studio.
It was probably never possible for a small studio like Colossal Order to deliver a fully functional successor from scratch when they were adding features for 10 years CS1 in parallel.
The only way it would've worked was if they could have used the same code in CS2. But clearly, they weren't able to, as it's missing most of the DLCs they built for CS1.
I'm conflicted seeing some of the angst about Cities Skylines 2 graphics issues but at least this delve into things gives some context. Given how incredible some of it looked in the leadup, the incredibly high demands on GPUs seems expected and they'll probably figure it out given a little time. https://youtu.be/l4DX6mUY78s?si=UNsz_4UMMPQBMwL6#citiesskylines
Was messing around with the Steam profile showcases and apparently my rarest achievements are all from parks and other natural resources in #CitiesSkylines
That... makes sense. I've been saying my litmus test for whether or not I'll like a game is whether I can plant flowers.
But also only 0.6% players have made an entire nature reserve? That feels unlikely.
#CitesSkylines2 is less like a sequel to #CitiesSkylines and more like a QoL patch with a fancy shader/texture mod where random features and systems have been drastically (and somewhat badly) rewritten.
Shout-out to the dev who had to make the old fishing boat mechanic work for garbage trucks, it's a nice touch, but garbage dumps are deletable now?
