A new study looking at artificial light at night and #EnvironmentalJustice indicators finds "a significant positive relationship between [the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Social Vulnerability Index] and #ALAN levels" and "considerable and complex heterogeneities across different rural-urban categories".
Ben from @MeidasTouch exposes how legacy media helps #Trump by lying about his crowd sizes instead of covering what he says.
As Ben points out, Trump’s crowd in South Carolina looked like it was about 5,000 people and a random Secret Service agent supposedly said 5,000 were inside and 10,000 in line.
But Trump and his minions claim 75,000 and Politico said 50,000. And they wrote as if Trump was literally a rock star and not a dangerous lying lunatic.
So, reasonably accurate figures of 5,000 to 15,000 people at one rally, in one state, indicate ALL those cultists support his:
🔻LIES
🔻CRIMES for which he’s been indicted in two actions so far
🔻ORGANIZING & INCITING INSURRECTION / Possible Sedition
🔻WHITE SUPREMACY
🔻AUTHORITARIANISM (His Dictatorship)
🔻CONTINUED ATTACKS against personal freedoms/liberty for minorities, women, LGBTQIA, migrants, asylum seekers, students
🔻NO SUPPORT FOR #ClimateCrisis or #environmentaljustice
🔻CONTINUED GROWTH of the fossil fuel industry & American oligarchy
🔻DEGRADATION OF INT’L ALLIANCES (again) & love letters to fascist leaders.
🔻A REPEAT OF OUR 2016-2020 NIGHTMARE, only worse next time.
FFS, We have to stop this insanity or we literally lose this Republic!
Resistance to a proposed lithium mine at Peehee Mu'huh, in so-called Nevada, wildfires, heatwaves, floods, and an Indigenous seizure of oil tankers in Peru in this special environmental episode of System Fail.
The Port of #Oakland and the U.S. Army Corps have a plan to allow megaships to dock at the port. The project would create cascading #AirPollution and traffic issues in communities like #WestOakland (70% POC), already one of the most pollution-burdened areas of the state.
"the prevailing mode of sustainability involved simply buying different things rather than confronting the economic assumptions that brought about environmental & social disaster...It is all too easy to imagine a future in which the wealthy continue to buy recycled sneakers, offset their carbon emissions & live in air-purified homes, while the poor suffer the worst effects of food scarcity & wildfires."
New publication. Probably the most accessible academic writing I've done. Featuring interviews and conversations with #Indigenous environmental leaders, like my main man, Clayton Thomas-Muller.
EDIT: it's not open source, but I hear that certain unscrupulous individuals may be willing to send copies, if asked. Can you believe that shameful behaviour smh
A paper under review at Environmental Science and Pollution Research concludes that “although the overall ALAN levels in the U.S. declined modestly” in 2012-19, “counties with a higher percentage of racial/ethnic minority groups, particularly Hispanic populations, exhibited significantly less decline.”
The eco-revolution that we need can't simply be to replace petro-capitalism with exploitative cobalt and lithium mining beneath a green-washed economy.
We need to rethink how we're going to produce energy production and store it safely and humanely throughout the entire energy economy, including at the very bottom of the supply chain.
“Near the middle of April, Fort Lauderdale Florida got about one third of their annual rainfall in just eight hours. Two feet of rain fell at the airport. Statistically, that is a one in a thousand-year event, but that is based on the old weather”
“The U.S. Northeast hit 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32C) in New York City. Nobody alive can remember April heat like that.”
Mastodon people, I'm looking for academics, researchers and librarians who are involved in their professional organizations to push for sustainability and decarbonization in their discipline/field.
Can you help me?
I am looking to exchange ideas, tips, and strategies.
I'm particularly interested in hearing more from people involved with the American Association of Geographers. #envhist #environment #sustainability #climatejustice #environmentaljustice
