when I first came to Mastodon and people were reminding me to add alt text to my images, I was a little irked
then I read several posts about how much this means to people who rely on reading apps to understand the web
now I'm fully converted. I enjoy writing alt text.
and I think it's crazy this isn't standard across all social mediums.
@kainoa Alright, after thinking about it over night I'm rather interested in making an iOS app specificly for Calckey. Couple questions to help get me started hopefully:
Where can I generate an API Key for my app so I can perform user auth?
If first was a silly question due to #fediverse thing, mind pointing me in the direction of some documentation that clears this up?
Want to start with the basic authentication flow & them work from there for the features you listed in the post, along with Calckey specific features so it's not overshadowed by generic fediverse apps. 😉
Had a little experiment for a couple of months. Set my default posting to "unlisted".
It doesn't do what I thought it did – posts still turn up in my followers' timelines.
I don't think it does what it's supposed to do: if someone boosts my toot, everyone can see it (or if not: it lets people boost a toot when that does nothing. Either way, that doesn't work.)
I shall return to my belief that every one of these posting types is broken, except maybe – maybe – "global"

Keeping bad actors away from the #fediverse is a #social problem that cannot be solved with #technology alone. However technology is one tool we can use to reduce the negative impact of bad actors as a first line of defense.
For anyone interested using technology for keeping bad actors off of #Mastodon and the fedeiverse to the greatest extent possible, check out (at)Are0h(at)ubiqueros.com website: https://thebad.space/about . It has an block-list API which in my opinion should be incorporated into the Mastodon reference implementation to make it easier for instance maintainers and system operators to share and coordinate efforts. Since (as far as I can see, at the time of this writing) these features are NOT built-in to the current Mastodon reference implementation, which shows an unfortunate lack of concern and understanding by the maintainers of mastodon.social, we have to resort to these round-about means to keep malicious users from attacking our communities.

I hope to make an art-only account on the FediVerse. But #PixelFed seems broken for my account there - and so far I get zero support from either PixelFed or the admin of my instance.

I'm not sure yet if I should switch instance or switch to Mastodon. I'm hoping to reach a wider community ... so I'm tending to make a .social account, rather than an .art one. Is that a good solution? Any other options?
Why are there so many projects with "Fedi" in its name, that only work with or are designed for #Mastodon? I think that's a bit confusing and misleading to be honest. #Fedifetcher (Script) #Fedified (Website) #FediAct (Addon) etc. #Fediverse
@Mina@HistoPol@FediFollows Unfortunately, I seem to be literally the only person who is trying to discuss sexuality in an academic but explicit way. There is very little sexual education of any kind in our society. Certainly not on social media. So my content is put with porn. Many people (women I suspect) consider any explicit vocabulary to be suspect. Mastodon asks for CW on any erotic content. My images are non-pornographic but I use words like clitoris and orgasm so that is erotic!

This is lamentable, however, (even ignoring, for matter of simplification, chiefly Muslim countries/societies) I would imagine that even in the #US, most of the millions of #MAGA supporters, in particular the #MomsForLiberty, would most surely support banning your books, at least for others. 😉

Please, for once, can I talk about #Mastodon without mentioning the #Fediverse? I know perfectly well that Mastodon is not Fediverse and it's far wider concept. We don't mention WORLD WIDE WEB when talking about a website, now do we?
