Earlier I was outside, it was traumatic and terrifying...there were people everywhere! :ablobcatknitsweats:
Okay, so maybe not completely terrifying...but some terror was had. That isn't what I wanted to tell you though so, apologies for the extra.
I was in THE STORE dodging people and hiding around corners and panic-dashing through the floral section because no one is EVER in that aisle...and I saw a lady struggling to climb the shelf like Everest.
This poor lady was about 5'6" and was struggling to climb to the top shelf and peer out over the aisle of pre-Thanksgiving wasteland. Or perhaps trying to gain a strategic advantage over a warring bargain hunter...I wasn't sure.
I stealthed near her and determined she was trying to see it there were items still available at the sales price. There was a box of whatever else was seeking deep against the back portion of the shelf that I was able to snatch for her.
Obviously I grabbed it down, I'm tall that is my job, and she was reluctant to accept the item because people are weird about height.
"are you sure?" She asked, as if I would suddenly shrink at any moment. Or perhaps become angry that she would accept my reach without question? What could I possibly been unsure of?
We are so conditioned for reciprocity. I'm tall, I can reach the top shelves but the lower shelves are harder for me...that's your job.
Humanity is a team sport, and I hope more remember that.
President Biden today discussed with Prime Minister Netanyahu "U.S. coordination with the United Nations, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and others in the region to ensure innocent civilians have access to water, food, and medical care." - White House
“'Children in the US can be legally married in 41 states, physically punished by school administrators in 47 states, sentenced to life without parole in 22 states, and work in hazardous agriculture conditions in all 50 states.' Over and over again, the worst states for children are clustered around the 'pro-life' Bible Belt, and the map of the states that are the worst for children looks a lot like a map of red-state America."
The US has the highest maternal mortality among high-income countries and the rate has increased over the past 20 years while it has decreased in most other countries. New data by state and by race/ethnicity for change from 1999-2019 https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2806661
Both Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin were “rebellious,” the white and Black establishment BOTH looked down on them, and neither was the first Black person to refuse to give up their seat for a white passenger in Montgomery. The fight for equality and against injustice was long and difficult and it was a collective struggle, not an individual one.
@w7voa How many billionaires will be going to pay for sub trips to inspect the wrecks of vessels sunk in the Mediterranean as they tried to transport refugees to safer environments in prosperous industrialized countries?
Spoiler alert: people are not going to stop caring about the right to access #abortioncare. Anti-abortion extremists always have been and always will be on the losing side of this issue when voters have a say. Good for Dems for continuing to highlight this.
@Pepper It seems to be clear that Leonard Leo & his SCOTUS agents will face the time, when they'll be going to regret, that they dared to attack the Fourteenth Amendment as part of the Reconstruction Amendments incorporated into the Constitution after Civil War, in exchange for luxurious trips paid by revanchist, rebellious, anti-constitutional & anti-democratic billionaires tied to cases before the Supreme Court of the United States.
Their money will not stop & shut up the voices of the people!
Their money will not pervert & kill justice!
Their money will not prevail over humanity!
Their money will not be allowed to subdue freedom, life & liberty.
@w7voa All reason to be proud of the U.S.'s ambassador to Poland holding the flag of openness & humanity high in the parade of legitimate pride against governments abusing power mimicking Putin's aggression against members of our fellow-humans of the LGBTQ community.
This is what white supremacy AND anti-Blackness looks like…so I’ll say this AGAIN…don’t tell me shit about the how “progressive” Medicare 4 All is WITHOUT sharing an accompanying strategy that addresses MEDICAL RACISM
Also further proof that the conversation around, and the overturning of, Roe v Wade has ALWAYS been about preserving white birth rates
@KimCrayton1 America can & must do better than that to become a civilized country any time.
"Even after controlling for age and women’s reproductive rights support, Patterson and her co-authors found that Black women’s maternal mortality rates were typically nearly double that of white women."
@TonyStark It's good, that President Biden starts actively reminding state rebels, that they're bound by the Constitution to respect the constitutionally guaranteed rights of all Americans, including members of the LGBTQ+ community.
"GOP" state rebels cannot arbitrarily abrogate constitutional amendments of the United States.
@w7voa Xina's dictatorial chokehold keeps on suffocating Hong Kong's remainder of democracy.
Disgusting.
The free world's economies shouldn't be dependent on reckless anti-democratic inhuman dictatorships.
They're all about small government until they're in charge, then they're all about extremist government control.
The demonization of people simply trying to live their lives is a horrifying look. History won’t look well on this. No matter how one feels about the issue personally, people need to stand up and put a stop to this.
@TonyStark 🤔 In 2022, the Regional Court of Cologne/ Germany ruled that denying that trans people were targeted by the Nazis qualifies as "a denial of Nazi crimes".
What is going to follow DeSantis's targeting of trans human beings & their human rights?
I'm not someone who has studied this deeply, but I think the treatment of queer and trans people in Nazi Germany are very relevant, and very similar to what we're seeing now.
Trans people are not "a people" in the eyes of the right, we're evidence of the degeneracy of their enemies.
@e_urq DeSantis & his ilk are dangerously, recklessly & corruptly playing with Nazi matches.
"...
The National Socialist Women's League published a book in 1934 which warned gender ambiguity represented "signs of degeneration emanating from an alien race … inimical to reproduction and for this reason damaging to the Volk. Healthy races do not artificially blur sexual differences".
The number one killer of children in America is gun violence. Where is a Republican doing something about that?
The Republicans in NC described this bill as “pro-woman.” I can’t think of anything more NOT pro-woman than restricting their bodily autonomy in any way and interfering in personal medical decisions. The GOP again show they don’t GAF about anything other than being in control or life.
@TonyStark The rebels, misleadingly masquerading as "Republicans" are failing to disguise their anti-human slaveholder mentality & disgraceful heritage.
And they'll be going to hurt women affiliated with their organization, too.
You can bet — women won't forget. Nor will their loving partners, if there'll be harm.
😎💪 The Federal Government is warning hospitals, that are denying pregnant women emergency abortion, they're breaking federal law & putting women's lives in jeopardy.
To be clear: First & foremost the insurrectionary "Republicans" with their anti-human "legislation" are forcing hospitals to turn pregnant women seeking emergency abortion away.
It's the rebellious "Republicans", who are recklessly endangering the lives of pregnant women.
European cities are full of classical nude statues of men and women. Children and adults walk by them daily and no one bats an eye, except for an occasional stop to admire the beauty. And they all seem fine.
In America it’s okay for children to see people, often their own classmates, being eviscerated, but gods forbid that they should see some art.
@TonyStark 👼 The witless Puritans, who don't know, what the word "pornography" means, and who don't have the slightest sense of classical art, are back.
And it could even be hilarious — weren't those armchair-inquisitors so aggressive, that pressure on the principal grew so strong, she felt the urge to resign.
Most embarrassing.
