Latest news from Rafah, with a reporter standing in a morgue where 30 more bodies have arrived over night. Meanwhile the world is watching Israel perform at Eurovision. #HungerGames levels of sick.
Or more correctly, I know the kind of women that this image is designed to appeal to. If you spend too much time on Mastodon or IRL liberal enclaves, then this picture probably looks comically or disturbingly outdated to you.
But I know a lot of women that this image is very attractive to.
Wealthy. Boys in baseball. Girls in dance. Dad brings in enough money so that she doesn't have to work. She spends her days at PTA events, book clubs at her church mom's group, and yoga classes. She lives an otherwise very happy and comfortable life.
But her message is that "this good happy life" can and will dissolve in a heartbeat if it's not protected. That's why you must submit to the men. They may seem cruel, but they are going to provide the good life you have, and protect that life. The cruelty is necessary to provide you with the happy, stable, Christian life you live.
That's the dark message that the GOP delivered last night. It's as if it was delivered from the Capital from the Hunger Games books.
I watched #HungerGames for the first time a few weeks ago (half term holidays film marathon with son). Already then I couldn’t help but be struck by the terrible parallels with Israel and #Gaza. But as Jason points out, the food drops took it to another level; really straight out of Hunger Games. This is our sadistic world.
Didn't know there was a new Hunger Games movie but I went to see it and it was actually quite a good time, something different from what I usually watch, but enjoyable nonetheless
I love this #10k#run. Trails through the city, passing through cinema (#hungergames), city archive, restaurants, and the #train repair hall. Thanks to all volunteers 🌧️
As deadly, unrelenting heat scorches Arizona, some entomologists are growing concerned about the increasing number of dead honeybees – a species vital to our #ecosystem, especially #FoodProduction.

"'It’s a very major concern,' Shaku Nair, an entomologist with the University of Arizona, told CNN, 'Honeybees can forage up to 113 degrees. As of July, we’ve had many days over 113 degrees, so bees are taking a bad hit right now.'"
As an avid #Dystopian fiction reader (and writer), the scenarios closest to I thought what we might experience is (IMHO) the novel "Dies The Fire", as well as "The Hunger Games". "Dies The Fires" / #Emberverse has an interesting fictional scenario -- guns don't work, and nuclear radiation is lessened. But even that "ideal" scenario is wrought with death, disease, discord, dictators -- the usual stuff that happens when societies break down. DTF does offer a glimmer of hope, but with #ClimateChange, I think even that bit of hope has been dashed. So yeah. #HungerGames, #Elites pitting us against each other for entertainment. That seems way more likely.
So, like, how many of you out there have tried to grow your own food. Like all of your food. #Rice, #Wheat, #Soybeans, etc. I've tried and it's not EASY! Have you thought about what you would eat if grocery stores were closed? Foraging isn't easy either. And imagine if we were all foraging at the same time... Not pretty.
Scientists warn of crop failure ‘uncertainties’ as Earth heats up
Increasing concentration of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere is putting the planet in ‘uncharted waters’ as weather extremes intensify.
4 Jul 2023
"A new study has highlighted the possibility of major harvest failures caused by climate change in multiple global breadbaskets as the United Nations warned of a 'dystopian future' without immediate action."
"Climate change is touching every aspect of human life. It may not be responsible for every disaster, but climate change is making extreme weather events more frequent and intense. Turbulence is getting worse. Cities are sinking. Droughts and floods are forcing people to flee their homes. What else? Food, of course.
Although food prices are affected by many factors—economics of the country, supply-chain, inflation, oil prices, wars and conflicts—climate plays a major role in production and it has started to sting. More than 345 million people face severe food insecurity in 2023 and crop failures due to floods, droughts, and other extreme weather events are making things worse.

"Beijing’s temperature soared past 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) again Thursday, as the Chinese capital grapples with what is shaping up to be one the most severe heat waves on record.
"Since 1951, Beijing has seen temperatures rising above 40C (104F) on 11 days – and five of them occurred over the past two weeks.
"The city of 22 million has already seen a new record for its hottest day in June, with a high of 41.1C (106F) registered on June 22.
"China has been gripped by scorching heat waves for weeks, which authorities said had arrived earlier and been more widespread and extreme than in previous years. "
