I know this woman.

Or more correctly, I know the kind of women that this image is designed to appeal to. If you spend too much time on Mastodon or IRL liberal enclaves, then this picture probably looks comically or disturbingly outdated to you.

But I know a lot of women that this image is very attractive to.
Wealthy. Boys in baseball. Girls in dance. Dad brings in enough money so that she doesn't have to work. She spends her days at PTA events, book clubs at her church mom's group, and yoga classes. She lives an otherwise very happy and comfortable life.

But her message is that "this good happy life" can and will dissolve in a heartbeat if it's not protected. That's why you must submit to the men. They may seem cruel, but they are going to provide the good life you have, and protect that life. The cruelty is necessary to provide you with the happy, stable, Christian life you live.

That's the dark message that the GOP delivered last night. It's as if it was delivered from the Capital from the Hunger Games books.

But as Jason points out, the food drops took it to another level; really straight out of Hunger Games. This is our sadistic world.

Watched (the new movie) and here are my spoiler-free thoughts:

  • It was actually a good movie. Way better than I expected based on book reviews. It made a concise point that was well done and much needed.

  • Every line written for Flickerman was pure gold. It made him way more disturbing than any of the villains.

  • Hunter Schafer is stellar

  • The music was pretty good, and Rachel Zegler delivered it

As an avid fiction reader (and writer), the scenarios closest to I thought what we might experience is (IMHO) the novel "Dies The Fire", as well as "The Hunger Games". "Dies The Fires" / has an interesting fictional scenario -- guns don't work, and nuclear radiation is lessened. But even that "ideal" scenario is wrought with death, disease, discord, dictators -- the usual stuff that happens when societies break down. DTF does offer a glimmer of hope, but with , I think even that bit of hope has been dashed. So yeah. , pitting us against each other for entertainment. That seems way more likely.

So, like, how many of you out there have tried to grow your own food. Like all of your food. , , , etc. I've tried and it's not EASY! Have you thought about what you would eat if grocery stores were closed? Foraging isn't easy either. And imagine if we were all foraging at the same time... Not pretty.

10 Becoming Massively More Expensive Due to

by Apeksha Bhateja | July 5, 2023

"Climate change is touching every aspect of human life. It may not be responsible for every disaster, but climate change is making extreme weather events more frequent and intense. Turbulence is getting worse. Cities are sinking. Droughts and floods are forcing people to flee their homes. What else? Food, of course.

Although food prices are affected by many factors—economics of the country, supply-chain, inflation, oil prices, wars and conflicts—climate plays a major role in production and it has started to sting. More than 345 million people face severe food insecurity in 2023 and crop failures due to floods, droughts, and other extreme weather events are making things worse.

Temperatures soared past 104 degrees F again Thursday, as the Chinese capital grapples with what is shaping up to be one the most severe heat waves on record.
