", and the have also had issues with teaching evolution in schools. In 2017, Turkey dropped it. Saudi Arabia, Oman, Algeria and Morocco have banned the teaching of evolution completely. In Egypt and Tunisia, evolution is presented as an unproven hypothesis. "

A panning on the that went well. That river in the middle is what separates from . On the right is Myanmar (Chin state) and on the left is India (Champhai state). Circa when a military coup happened and when the situation had cooled down a bit. Was advised not to stay the night on the Myanmar side so crossed the bridge around sunset, stayed in a local hotel, and came back to the Myanmar side during daylight.

India cuts periodic table and evolution from school textbooks - “There is a movement away from rational thinking, against the enlightenment and Western ideas” in India, adds Sucheta Mahajan, a historian at Jawaharlal Nehru University who collaborates with Mukherjee on studies of RSS influence on school texts. Evolution conflicts with creation stories, adds Mukherjee. History is the main target, but “science is one of the victims”, she adds. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-01770-y

"India cuts periodic table [energy sources, pollution] and evolution from school textbooks

The news that evolution would be cut from the curriculum for students aged 15–16 was widely reported last month, when thousands of people signed a petition in protest. But official guidance has revealed that a chapter on the periodic table will be cut, too, along with other foundational topics such as sources of energy and environmental sustainability. Younger learners will no longer be taught certain pollution- and climate-related topics, and there are cuts to biology, chemistry, geography, mathematics and physics subjects for older school students.

Overall, the changes affect some 134 million 11–18-year-olds in India’s schools"

The cost of a society that cannot think critically, is borne by everyone. Wealth can help delay, but not escape that cost.

Ergo, it's both in our individual & collective interest to develop critical thinking in our society.

If President Droupadi Murmu were to inaugurate the new parliament building, it would have looked jarring to see an Adivasi woman perform Brahminical rituals. Though she would not minded doing it considering she subscribes to the Hindu nationalist ideology.
