I know this is a long shot, but do any of you have a hotsync cable for a #Palm m100 or m105? My Palm won't sync reliably and I think the cable might have a break in it.
I don't think (most) people appreciate old technology anymore.
Today I brought my typewriter (a Smith-Corona Silent) to each of my classes to take notes with. Other than my friends, most people just didn't seem to care (or even notice).
And of all teachers, my History teacher asked me to put it away.
Is it just me, or do ppl not appreciate old tech as much as I thought they did?
Does anyone else have an excessive amount of CDs? I'm busy ripping all of mine so I can get rid of the discs. Man, I had a lot of CDs. Lots of great music. Glad I'm saving it, even though I get all my music from Spotify.
I am ALWAYS here for a bit of #OldTech nostalgia, and tape Walkmans are an obvious target, but know your audience, and don’t start by insulting the minidisc, which was really THE defining, aspirational technology of my teenage years, and captured the entire soundtrack to a youth misspent in grimy, basement techno clubs… https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2024/feb/17/walkman-memories-still-in-love-with-old-tech
I just remembered that older (2G) phones use to cause a particular rhythmic sound in any nearby electronic speakers when a text message was about to come through. I thought that was pretty interesting.
A bit of an interesting trip down #oldtech lane. The P800's number keyboard was detachable... and mechanical. Pressing the key buttons actually pressed "touch sensitive" tips towards the screen.
When the physical keypad was flipped closed, the phone would automatically put a digital, identical layout keypad on the screen.
Took Sony Memory Sticks, had an autofocus 0.3mp camera, dedicated shutter button, removable battery. No wifi. Had Bluetooth, GPRS data.
and lastly on this bit of P800 #oldtech, because I'm primarily a #coffee and #espresso guy, here's a photo of the smartphone with a La Marzocco Linea 1 group in the background.
Oh... and the stylus! The stylus was a plastic feather shaped flat thing that slotted into the side, covering the memory stick slot!
Okay... here's. the answers to my #oldtech post from a short while ago. I showed a photo of 4 tech items stacked sideways, from 2003. Here's the reveal!
Sony Ericsson P800
Compaq iPaq
Sony Clie Palm device
Apple iPod 2nd Gen (the non mechanical wheel version).
All (except the Clie) super cutting edge devices when they came out. Esp (IMO), the P800. Pretty much the first "smartphone" when you think about it)
LOL apparently people do not recognize 8-track players anymore. Seen on a local listing for an estate sale. "Looks like an old credit card machine" #oldtech
My musings from last night about the #Psion Siena SSD Drive, plus a couple of pics of the #PsiDrive.
I know this is a long shot as there aren't many former Psion employees here. But if anyone has the schematic for the Siena drive (or any other information, such as the 3a schematic, or information on the Condor chip), please get in touch.
