I know this is a long shot, but do any of you have a hotsync cable for a m100 or m105? My Palm won't sync reliably and I think the cable might have a break in it.

I don't think (most) people appreciate old technology anymore.

Today I brought my typewriter (a Smith-Corona Silent) to each of my classes to take notes with. Other than my friends, most people just didn't seem to care (or even notice).

And of all teachers, my History teacher asked me to put it away.

Is it just me, or do ppl not appreciate old tech as much as I thought they did?

Does anyone else have an excessive amount of CDs? I'm busy ripping all of mine so I can get rid of the discs. Man, I had a lot of CDs. Lots of great music. Glad I'm saving it, even though I get all my music from Spotify.

I am ALWAYS here for a bit of nostalgia, and tape Walkmans are an obvious target, but know your audience, and don’t start by insulting the minidisc, which was really THE defining, aspirational technology of my teenage years, and captured the entire soundtrack to a youth misspent in grimy, basement techno clubs…

I just remembered that older (2G) phones use to cause a particular rhythmic sound in any nearby electronic speakers when a text message was about to come through. I thought that was pretty interesting.

I'm certain there's loads that I've missed with this. Do feel free to comment with constructive information.

A random memory just came into my head... The first we had in the house when I was a kid. The Amstrad 464.

Yes kids, not 64GB of memory but 64k. What was yours?

My 2013 walkabout tech. Some old, some new, some looks old but new, some bleeding edge new.

  • Fujifilm X100 (with a custom leather half case)
  • Rayban Clubmasters
  • Google Nexus OG smart phone
  • Omega Railmaster XXL full manual wrist watch (movement's from a pocket watch!)
  • Mont Blanc pen my Mum gave me on graduation day.
  • one of MANY 33 Cups of Coffee note take books.

A bit of an interesting trip down lane. The P800's number keyboard was detachable... and mechanical. Pressing the key buttons actually pressed "touch sensitive" tips towards the screen.

When the physical keypad was flipped closed, the phone would automatically put a digital, identical layout keypad on the screen.

Took Sony Memory Sticks, had an autofocus 0.3mp camera, dedicated shutter button, removable battery. No wifi. Had Bluetooth, GPRS data.

Killer tech 21 years ago.

and lastly on this bit of P800 , because I'm primarily a and guy, here's a photo of the smartphone with a La Marzocco Linea 1 group in the background.

Oh... and the stylus! The stylus was a plastic feather shaped flat thing that slotted into the side, covering the memory stick slot!

Okay... here's. the answers to my post from a short while ago. I showed a photo of 4 tech items stacked sideways, from 2003. Here's the reveal!

  1. Sony Ericsson P800
  2. Compaq iPaq
  3. Sony Clie Palm device
  4. Apple iPod 2nd Gen (the non mechanical wheel version).

All (except the Clie) super cutting edge devices when they came out. Esp (IMO), the P800. Pretty much the first "smartphone" when you think about it)

Speaking of , I miss these things, and in some ways, think they were still better than streamer services and smart phones of today.

For instance, you could hook up TWO headphones to these, IIRC. So you and your loved one could bop around... wired, of course.

All in the size of a few sticks of gum. From 2004.
