All my old slides contain dead links to my old Twitter account. To avoid that in the future I got myself a dedicated domain that points to whichever social media I'm using primarily at the moment.

Even better future-proofing @matuzo, is to Post to your Own Site, then Syndicate Elsewhere.

https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/23/23928550/posse-posting-activitypub-standard-twitter-tumblr-mastodon

Control the primary location of your social media posts so you never need to worry that a "platform" will whisk them away or turn evil.

Syndicate your posts to whatever is popular at the moment, without making the mistake of depending on any of those.

you know... maybe TikTok isn't the best place for you to hold your debate about anything.

Of course, where else are you going to debate that thing where "everyone" can see it? Twitter? YouTube? (Do the cool kids even use YouTube anymore?)

To not pour our lives and effort into the social media, is sensible.

And it frees up time and energy, to put into systems like the . Not everyone needs to do it, but the more people who do, the more options expand for everyone.

More effort before a payoff, sure. But far less wasted effort when yet another platform submits to .

We remain excited about the Digital Markets Act and the push for interoperability: https://www.wired.com/story/whatsapp-interoperability-messaging/

If you didn't catch the main stage talk from Matthew, Matrix's project lead, at FOSDEM, we encourage you to watch the recording once it's posted online: https://fosdem.org/2024/schedule/event/fosdem-2024-3345-opening-up-communication-silos-with-matrix-2-0-and-the-eu-digital-markets-act/

@xmpp Congratulations on 25 years 👏 Thanks for all your work on open, decentralized communications.

The world is better for having XMPP in it.

My job is to work toward bringing secure, decentralized, open source licensed communication tools with open governance to the masses with Matrix.

But if folks prefer XMPP or IRC, that's still a win in my book. I think Signal is a step in the right direction, too!

It's open vs. the world, and I'm looking forward to working together to challenge the status quo of surveillance capitalism and proprietary, centralized walled gardens.

Oooh, I'm 8 days late but has now been around for a full year 🥳

Here's to continuing our work to connect and build worker power across the globe, free from proprietary centralized platforms that answer only to their shareholders.

The fediverse is going to suffer a hideous setback if Xitter goes into receivership, and they actually put a competent CEO in charge. It doesn’t make me feel good to say that, but I have a penchant for reality. It doesn’t mean it fails. But it sure will mean a much much longer trajectory.

@shoq Anyone going back when we've had a first class demonstration of how in the hands of corposcum can be rapidly and trivially turned against its users is a fool.

is really just the minimum, the server-centrism of the current is something I also deem concerning.

The logical conclusion of (for maximum user agency) essentially requires a or first approach to everything.

It seems the Canadian government would like to treat corporate platforms as protocols (Carry our emergency messages! Carry our public news!) and also as a business (We will tax you! We will value transfer to local media corporations!)

Let’s go full protocol - focus on interop, pioneer regulated ActivityPub interop.
