Could someone create a bot that shows what percentage of Mastodon and the Fediverse (in total users and MAU) are on mastodon.social? And show these percentages on a graph as well?
This could be a good tool in keeping an eye on how centralised this place is becoming, and get across to others what the danger is.
(At the moment m.s seems to be about 14%. Who knows where it will go now that the official app is just telling people to sign up on mastodon.social.)
today is the 50th birthday of my best friend, (we met in kindergarten some time ago) and I don't know if I will call her...

Has anyone ever experienced a really strong feeling of nausea and then you sneeze and it goes away? 😅 I've been experiencing this for the last 6 months and my GP is clueless. I've read its something to do with stimulation of the vagus nerve but I'd love a smarter person than me to explain it? For context, its coincided with increased stomach problems. Nausea every morning, swollen stomach when I eat certain things etc. I've gone gluten-free and vegan to try to ease it but its still happening 🤔

Sooo … I’m recording #CCTV#video of my home. I’d like to stream it to an offsite location, so that I can e.g. find out what caused a fire after my house burned down, or who broke in (at least until they destroy the cameras & storage). Of course, I don’t trust the remote server, it should not be able to look at the footage. So, #encryption. But it can’t lose any data when the connection gets interrupted. Is there a simple way (like an environment variable) to tell #unix/#linux/#bsd commandline applications that I'm running in light mode, so PLEASE do not give me yellow on white text?

I have an #ubuntu server running 20.04 and every time I run 'apt dist-upgrade' it set's my gateway to 192.168.1.1, which breaks the Internet because I run a 172.16.69.0/24 network.
I'm thinking about dipping my toe into using my domain as a Fedi instance, being a little more self sufficient. I have Gotosocial up and running, but wanted to check out other options too. Akkoma isn't playing well via Docker for some reason. Any other platforms worth checking out?
Problem is: it takes forever, but the main issue is that my laptop goes to 100% processor use and the cooler fans go nuts, looks like it will take off or set my house on fire.
Is there any app that is more efficient for this? I can't use a cloud service, I have lots of videos to convert, it's not practical

Is there a dead-simple way to host a #WebDAV server (for sharing files/automated backups from my phone) on a LAN without having to deal with the million moving parts of a full web server?
I'm on the hunt for a dumbphone. Something without a touchscreen that supports 4G and does calls, texts, and alarms. Ideally the ability to hotspot for a laptop, but that's not crucial. Bonus points for one that also supports 5G. Happy to buy new or used (with a slight preference for the latter), but I don't want to spend a silly amount of money for something as low tech as a DVD player. Any suggestions?

Does any of you #linux#kernel or @postmarketOS people have any idea what's going on with my #samsung#tablet when I enable #hardware#acceleration in @firefox? It seems like it renders the first few bits of text towards the top and then just stops. It works fine without hardware acceleration, but it's so much smoother with it.
Would a /freedom of information act/ (#FoIA) request be a remedy here? If the #plumbing code could be foribly disclosed, perhaps it could be made into a PDF that archive.org serves. I can’t tell whether #IAPMO is a gov agency or private. #askfedi
I'm starting to accumulate a lot if media files on my Mastodon server. I'm new to this mastohosting thing and are looking for a great way to get rid of older media files.
