Facebook is undeniably cooked, a decaying, depressing hall of horrors full of viral AI-generated content that seemingly gets worse every day.
But I do not think Facebook is the dead internet. Instead, I think it is something worse. Facebook is the zombie internet, where a mix of bots, humans, and accounts that were once humans but aren’t anymore mix together to form a disastrous website where there is little social connection at all.
I have spent more time than anyone I know endlessly scrolling through AI spam on Facebook. I have watched the evolution of Facebook’s AI spam go from slightly uncanny modifications of real images to the completely bizarre and obviously fake. I have done this from my own Facebook account, which I have had since 2005, as well as from two burner accounts I created specifically to track how AI-generated content is recommended on the platform and to see whether Facebook would put AI-generated images into my feed organically. I now use Facebook exclusively to see what kinds of bizarre AI content is going viral, and to attempt to figure out who is making it, why they are making it, and who is interacting with it."

Ce sont des filles/femmes qui montre leur sexe et/ou leurs seins en s'essayant faussement maladroitement, et sautant, via un reflet dans un miroir ou peu importe, sans sous-vêtements.
J'ai refait un compte pour mon asso de secouristes.
J'ai donc des chattes, des ambulances, des nibars, des secouristes en tenu, des chattes, etc.
Figurez vous que ce sont des joueurs de #PokémonGo qui modifient OpenStreetMaps (sur lequel le jeu est basé) pour créer des fausses plages pour faire apparaître des Pokémon rares. La communauté a mis un filtre pour voir les changements faits par de "nouveaux utilisateurs" qui envoyaient clairement des dizaines de fausses cartes. Ils en sont réduit à expliquer aux utilisateurs que OpenStreetMap est une VRAIE carte et ne pas mettre de fausses plages.
Comme quoi l'invasion de faux contenus ce n'est pas que sur #Twitter ou #Facebook. 😅 #osm

AI spam is being recommended using this system -is showing up in ppl’s feeds. I've seen this on my own feed +seen it on 2 brand new, burner Facebook accts I created to research this story -specifically sought out AI-gen. content & “liked” it & left comments on it. Within a few hrs -vast maj. of all content being recommended to me was the same bizarre AI spam -has been repeatedly going viral both on Facebook & off of it.
Jedes Mal, wenn ich mich (aus beruflichen Gründen) in den Kommentarbereichen von Plattformen wie TikTok, Instagram und Co. umsehe, habe ich das Gefühl, in eine dunkle Welt zu blicken. Was dort an Hass, Dummheit und anderen negativen Äußerungen verbreitet wird, ist für mich kaum zu ertragen. Das geht weit über Meinungsäußerungen hinaus. Es ist einfach abscheulich. 🙈
