Looking for name ideas for my future Sharkey instance.
I need to get off of this ridiculous Mastodon ride. Technically, I guess I COULD just do something temporary and then when I delete this instance, remake it with Sharkey and migrate again. I'd have "social" back, but that seems like a lot of work.
It's just gonna be me 99% of the time typing it in manually, so I want to keep it short, but also make sense or even funny/witty.
We provide Mastodon/Peertube/Nextcloud/Friendica and more, as a service. For a cost. Just order and have your own instance, no headaches.
I always do trade-free stuff, but since I am trapped in this trade-system and I do not get enough financial support via the projects that I do, I have to also trade a bit.
WebApe webape.site/ is what I do to trade. Basically we create websites, install Mastodon/Friendica instances, Peertube, Nextcloud, etc.. We setup, manage, update, customize.
We try to do something decent and make some money with that, to then support our free projects.
So if you want a Mastodon instance for example, or any other website/service, please see webape.site/. I have lowered the prices now, so a Mastodon instance starts at 30 Euros per month.
We will take a limited amount of websites so to not overwhelm ourselves.
Please share if you think others might be interested. In a way, we can make the fediverse more known and accessible via the WebServices that we provide.
Man, the way folks on #fedi can be so casually cruel and hateful towards people they think represent evil things is pretty jarring, and saddening.
Like, I am absolutely not a fan of capitalism, and the words "side hustle" send me scurrying towards the nearest airsickness bag, but I see folks just lashing out and lambasting folks that are even a little bit out of line, ideologically.
Guys,
You're awesome in so many ways, but I really wish you'd not do that.
What if moderation were partially decoupled from server administration in the fediverse? What if you could choose one or more moderators or blocklists to "subscribe" to, and then make your own exceptions about specific users or servers to block or allow? Maybe "reports" could be compiled into user-specific block lists, which could then be voluntarily aggregated. Kind of a federated approach to moderation itself...
It seems like this would be a better system, and also would resolve a lot of debate about moderation and defederation up front.
While studying an ActivityPub scraper, I happened to discover a lot of fedi software that I was previously unfamiliar with. There's a lot of cool, weird, and concerning projects out there:
Jedyny polski urząd, który jest w stanie obecnie informować społeczeństwo za pomocą social mediów to @UODO, które jest obecne w zdecentralizowanej sieci #Fediwersum.
Please do not do this. The #fedi does not work for this. The people you are targeting will mute/block and report you, and the instance you are using will likely either close your account or risk being defederated.
After a few month here (formerly gounux), I guess it is time for a proper #introduction
Professionally speaking, I usually try to present myself as GIS software engineer, started with java dev, then came to real life (and real problems) : python, GIS, mostly on QGIS, Postgres, linux, sometimes a bit of www .. I also sometimes like to share the few I know about theese during some practicals and trainings.
#UnpopularOpinion, if people in #USA & #UK on here are serious about 2024 elections & not losing to Republicans & Conservatives in 2024 they need to spend more time talking to swing voters.
That means either getting them in here, on #Fedi, or talking to them where they are.
Folks, for those of us who care about #Gaza or #refugees generally, may I suggest you follow my remarkable friend @alisonphipps .
She has been writing and exchanging poetry and witness with #Palestian writers, diplomats, doctors, and survivors online - using any network platform they have access to. That is not, so far, the Fedi. She's one of the stubborn, compassionate hearts of #Scottish and international support for Gaza, and a wonderful scholar-activist.
As of this morning, she's brought her work back to the #Fedi. We have a long history here of using networks for justice. Please help me add strength and reach to her humanitarian work. #Boost this, follow her work, amplify the voices of the Palestinians, help find tools to stop the genocide.
Hej dobrzy ludzie w Fedi. Ostatnio w podkaście opowiedziałem krótko i w sposób nieplanowany o sieci Fediwersum. Takie mam pytanko czy w miarę ok jest to zrobione jako ekstremalnie krótkie wprowadzenia i zachęta? Czy nadaje się to, aby komuś ewentualnie podesłać, aby załapał szybko ideę?
"Mastodon founder and CEO Eugene Rochko said in a post that these attacks are more difficult to moderate than past ones, because they deliberately target smaller servers, which often have less moderation tools in place. Some of these servers offer open registration, making it possible to quickly start new accounts and post spam. And as Smith notes, these mass spam attacks can drive up server costs, leaving admins with unexpected bills."
