We watched THE INNOCENTS (2021) last night and while I thought it was a solid horror film, I am somewhat bewildered at the 97% on RT. I'd give it a 90% - it was a unique premise, certainly full of horror, and the kids were great in it. But it wasn't a near masterpiece.

(Note that the horror contains some truly appalling animal death, so don't watch it if that's going to traumatize you.)

There are two reasons the SCOTUS needs to either immediately hear the arguments about presidential immunity or not agree to hear it at all.

    1. The American voters need to know if Trump broke the law.
    2. Biden needs to know if he can legally assassinate Trump while he is still in office.

If you think the second one is absurd, then you have a better grasp of the US Constitution than the SCOTUS.

Over the last 3+ decades, I've watched the Republican party bring fascism to the brink of victory again, a mere 60 years after its defeat in WWII.

Aided, hand-in-hand, by the post-communist, mafia-state apparatuses of Russia & China - countries the GOP spent the last 100 years using as bogeymen against US voters who wanted better services from their own national government - & by the multi-national corporations that funded the GOP & were rewarded with dismantling of anti-monopoly & FCC laws.

Before Fox these ideas were spread through the midwest on AM radio. I was watching it grow via the evangelical (fundamentalist) churches and through institutions like Bott Radio Network. I think the divorce from reality and distrust of science became normalized for many through opposition to the theory of evolution.

, anyone? Perfect example from publishing. A publisher is using AI to write crappy nonfiction, then assigning author names that almost match leading experts in that field (to trick search engines). No doubt other AIs will now search those texts as authoritative. This is done solely to make money and only makes the world a worse place.

was chatting with a friend about some of the challenges with teaching yourself programming topics:

    • you have random gaps that you don’t even know about
    • it's hard to assess your level, you might know a lot about one subtopic and be a total beginner elsewhere
    • it's very difficult to guess what other fellow autodidacts know about the subject

I've had to learn how to suss out what shared knowledge base I have with another programmer on any given topic quickly so that we can talk

    SnerkRabbledauber,

Yes. But the good news is that that is exactly the part the learner has control of. So they don't have to wait around for a fix from outside.
