I am not entirely sure what a dating app is, tbh. I would like to think it's a tool for improving your dates. But I strongly suspect they are some attempt at a hook-up site.

The Christian Science Monitor has a #fediverse presence @csmonitor
I used to be a daily subscriber (when I had money) and I miss that level #journalism which is really rare these days.
Well, with 100 million more users, we had to expect a lot more influx of social media farmers.
It is a fortunate/unfortunate thing: #ActivityPub is becoming a very large mass, thereby attracting ever more attention both good and bad.
But as its mass approaches ∞, more and more people will have the ability to block/opt-out of everything outside their chosen community, and to migrate.
We should build a #VI-centric ActivityPub instance with @chris, maybe a Diaspora or something.
:Chuckle: It is more a case of inevitability. With upwards of 150 million uses on platforms which at least mimic #ActivityPub interoperability, it is very likely they will eventually have some degrees of interoperability.
“Better” cars just isn’t enough. As I put it recently in my advice to Irish cities, “Your goal SHOULDN’T be to replace a million fossil fuel vehicles with a million electric vehicles. It should be to replace a million fossil fuel vehicles with 250K electric vehicles. The answer HAS to be FEWER cars."
And hey, let's get really radical: use bikes to deliver goods for that 'last mile' delivery service. Heck, we could even bring back grocery and milk delivery…
Good news, everyone! The Yurok Tribe will now co-manage 125 acres of Redwood forest, a gateway to the state/national park, along with the National Park Service.
The tribal nation signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday with Redwood national and state parks and the non-profit Save the Redwoods League.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Spanish_North_America.png. It was incorporated into Provincias Internas in 1776, nominally part of the Mexican Empires, Priméra Republica Federal, República Centralista de México, then la rebelión de Californios in 1842 resulted in a de facto Governorship by Pio de Jesús Pico (and continued power void in the north).
At this point, Alta California is Mexican, largely ignored but militarily policed.
In 1845 US Cpt. Frémont US Army, enters Alta California. In 1846 he commands the Sacramento River massacre, Wintu people. He continues north into Oregon country, commanding the Klamath Lake massacre, Klamath people. He returns to California, commands the Sutter Buttes massacre, Patwin of the Wintu people.
This was the precursor to the US conquest of California during the US-Mexico war.
"The mobile spectrum is for making us happy" "The telephone wire is for making us happy" "The back fence is for making us happy" "Language is for making us happy"
I wouldn't think the medium has any responsibility for the message, per se.
"The actions of communicating and interacting with others is for making us happy." ← This, this I can get behind.
Humans apply value to things; they are not intrinsically valued.
Social networking software is for connecting people. That's what it's for, and that's what it does.
It is a medium, a tool. Just as a broadsheet originally was to inform.
Already your primary discussions are how to monetize this medium, rather than make it ~zero-cost for everyone to engage/host. Nearly everyone on social media walks around with a server-grade computer in their pocket.
No, I am not saying that. But I saw at least three separate threads other than yours about monetization. It's super important, and I am not opposed to it, but it seems a lot more interest in that aspect - generally among the 'grow fediverse community' - than in the new platforms or expanding adoption/audience.
I do know a lot about your involvement in AP, and have been a casual follower since b4 WV - definitely no hate!
When I am notified of a new follower, I look at their time line. Some are new accounts with no followers or #introduction. I would like to respond by welcoming these new accounts to the #fediverse with a getting started message. Link suggestions? #mastodon#askFedi
Had a conversation two weeks ago with a member of the Navajo tribe who very solidly dropped her mic by telling me that the goal of southwestern tribes for gathering data about water was not efficiency, but usage. It was a good firm slap to my assumptions.
Nope, still not getting that it is not also about efficiency.
Usage is observational—how much moves from here to there. That will be limited by the distribution system capacity (potential usage) and that system's efficiency (losses between here and there.)
Even if one is looking at 'potential usage' as "additional distribution build out to places not yet served' that is still an efficiency assessment: the spaces to be served could be livable/productive but are not, currently.
Yes, I attended Uni in Albuquerque, and am somewhat familiar with the … misuses (in my opinion) of the water distribution system(s). And I have never understood the fetishism (again, imo) so many people have for Indigenous North American cultures. It is likely a failing in my imagination.
In 2000, ND was estimated to have enough wind to double US electrical output. Just ND. But hey! then they discovered #tarsands and no one was willing to invest in transmission.
The primary driver of energy demand is #climateadaptation. Not AI, not crypto, although they are crazy big.
Remember that key point: electricity demand is spiking up due to #climatechange adaptation.
We cannot stop adapting. We can require new, non-adaptation, demand build new renewable energy supply to meet its expected consumption. This is already happening; in the USA it is driven by the IRA legislation.
We need far, far more storage. More than just dams and water, more than weird mineral batteries. Compressed air, big rocks, thermal storage mass.
Please do not do this. The #fedi does not work for this. The people you are targeting will mute/block and report you, and the instance you are using will likely either close your account or risk being defederated.
Just make one bathroom, with separate rooms with walls and real doors. It will cost nearly 2x as much to build per unit (each one should have a small sink & mirror,) but that one bathroom will serve everyone so there will be some reduction in total units.
