Can any of you tell me what name or spec of plug will fit this power socket? The opening is roughly 4 mm x 17 mm overall, with a square end and a round end. It is for charging a lithium battery, and I don’t think the original cord had a lump/brick in it. Of course I lost the cord. #WhatIsIt #HiveMind #electronic

I need your historical help.

In the '90s we still shipped software on 3.5" floppies. At the company I worked out, one of our tools was a: 3.5in Disk Duplicator. It was an external drive with a mechanical arm. The drive tilted up at 45 degree angle to accept a new disk and then down to eject it.

I think it was called a Mac Douglas Disk Duplicator.

Can anyone help find a picture or other reference?

Looking to probe the 🐝 of Mastodon in my search for a 🥯 🔖 app on . I have various gastrointestinal issues including and I want to know the ingredients I have consumed and at what time during the day. This means that most of the many calorie / macro-nutrient trackers out there are not appropriate. Ideally, it will be a local-first and conscious solution. Boosts very much appreciated. What does the suggest to use as an alternative to Trakt?
I'm looking for something that

  • is
  • runs on
  • in Docker
  • is visually pleasing
  • can handle both movies and shows
  • can import Trakt data
  • can be integrated with Plex.

As always, boosts mean good karma 😘

#Hivemind some help. In my personal #Agile friend group, I know 10-15 people who're looking for work right now. I plan to make infrequent postings to promote my friends. Help them network, etc.

Two things:

  • What would you want to know about someone that would get you to connect and talk to them?
  • How would I need to frame the whole thing so that you repost/reshare so these people get to know more people than I do?

(The post will be on LinkedIn since that's were ppl have profiles)

i have a hard time believing that using terms like “artificial intelligence” are causing people to believe that it’s “thinking”.

you don’t have to explain to people why artificial grass doesn’t grow. the “artificial” part says that on its own

“lab grown” diamonds are a thing now, they avoided “artificial” diamonds because they’re chemically identical to the real thing

besides, there’s far simpler explanations — e.g. the “AI is going to take over the world” messaging

I beg your pardon; I saw only your second toot and pressed reply without looking for a first.

I think we are both right, but I had not twigged that you thought it improbable that folks might anthropomorphise the machines. In my limited experience humans have a low threshold for thinking in terms of analogy, and I suspect this leads to a low threshold for anthropomorphisation.

You're quite right about the dictionary definition of learning. I'm slightly hesitant to agree beyond that but because of my own ignorance rather than anything else: I am disinclined to call a "hard disk drive" "machine-knowledge" because it seems to me to be too close to thinking by analogy, when such is not necessary.

I know, it's a slippery slope to arguing with a reporter about learning by analogy like that famous video of Richard Feynman, or correcting one's grandchildren for being lazy using "car" as a contraction of "motor-car" (thanks Gran :P ), or readjusting one's students for saying "plane" when they mean "airplane".

As much as I wish "meta-algorithm" might be a preferred term, I realise it never will be. Forgive me; I think I replied on an optimistic day xD English teachers, indeed any linguists, everywhere will agree that language is a fickle mistress; perhaps only slightly less fickle than thought herself.

I hope it is some small consolation that I think right and wrong are constructs of the animal mind, that I accept p>0.05 as probably being real, and that we're probably both right.

What is the preferred platform/service to compile a public music playlist?
I have been asked IRL by several people recently to give them a primer to Prog Metal/Rock - I told them straight away I am not an authority in this by any means, but would be happy to provide them with breadcrumbs into this genre.
So, what does the suggest to use?

For this, I need Masto hive power because I'm so, so bad at knowing and picking actors.

Guys (and gals and all others) who would you pick for my Winds and Pillars? For the Priests?

Let's start with West, alright? (I know you all love him.

Then South, East and North, then Earth, and then any side characters (Brai and Madu come to mind).

I want to monitor a server on my network. Simple up/down monitoring. Reason being is that I'm having problems with my internet at home, and I wanna see how often it drops out. Any recommendations please, folks?

I'm looking to gather as many instances of poor learning sets, bigotry, and other biases. It's going to be primarily clinical / clinical research people who are being sold that 'the algorithm' will save medicine because machines are unbiased. Can you ID this story?

I remember reading a sci-fi short when I was growing up about military scientists who create a computer.

As it is completed, a mysterious “alien” craft appears and starts threatening the computer.

Short story short, it turns out this is the computer itself that has time-travelled from the future to destroy itself, for reasons I can’t recall.

I’ve searched for the story a few times, including just now, and drawn a blank.

Ideas?

IT IS DONE 🥳

turns out the screws on a 35 are Torx T4s!! once the set of precision screwdrivers arrived, it was easy-peasy to get the new strap on.

this fairly ancient Forerunner just got a new lease on life thanks to everyone who had tips and suggestions 😄 no more chewed-up, torn, dirty strap for me!! I really like the new strap, it isn't as bulky as the original strap, and doesn't have a clasp. looks cute, too.

ma question est : est-il nécessaire que j'aille aussi faire un PCR ? Il y a aucun suspense, j'ai clairement le même truc qu'elle a eu. Est-ce que ça a un intérêt quelconque auquel je penserais pas ? merciiii

Mastodon , it's a long shot but I need your help with getting a very random request to the right person. Please boost to help me get some traction on this one.

I'm looking to find a photographic reference for an art project and can't find one.

As a child in the 70s, my bedroom had this awesome Heinz Edelmann Yellow Submarine vinyl wallpaper, in white, lemon yellow, lime green, and maybe bubble gum pink? with black outlines for the drawings. My mom said it was something fun I could enjoy as I grew up. And easy to clean for a kid who tended to draw on walls as a preschooler.

I remember staring at The Beatles, the Blue Meanie and Dreadful Flying Glove (in green), trippy flowers, and other features of the print for hours.

This French wallpaper is the closest I can find, but it's not the same as the American version and simpler colorway I'm looking for.

Anyone happen to have an old sample of this wallpaper or an image of it I could borrow?
