Happy New Year, everyone! It's day one of the #LunarNewYear. Due to unforeseen circumstances my family is not going visiting today so I'm very tempted to (1) go back to bed, (2) read novels and (3) eat crisps while watching Hospital Playlist. I will probably do all three.
If I was in Singapore or Malaysia right now, I would have no shortage of delicious food, with minimal effort (well that’s actually how it is for me every single day there, not just during the festivities).
So now I have to make my own.
Today I’m going to attempt to make pineapple tarts from scratch. Again, never had to do it before (every family member has their own specialty and they give it to me to pick the best).
Happy Lunar New Year to all our friends and #FOSS contributors who celebrate this holiday! May the Year of the Dragon bring joy, good health, and new opportunities to you and your loved ones #LunarNewYear#FOSSASIA#opensource#community
"I nudge my bags forward, mentally rehearsing what to say. When I reach the counter, I hand over my passport and plane ticket. My heart beats faster, but I smile as though nothing’s wrong." —Grace Loh Prasad, excerpted from her forthcoming memoir, The Translator's Daughter.
Pre-lunar-new-year feast includes lo mein (long noodles are a requirement) with seafood (but no squid - squid is not allowed for new year's), roasted pork and oysters hot pot (which I've been craving for a while), vegetables, and chicken. #LunarNewYear
I’ve learned that ‘Chinese food’ is so vast that something I dislike (nian gao, sticky sweet glutinous rice cake) is bound to have a Vietnamese Chinese version I vastly prefer (savory version with pork belly)
I also had to leave the restaurant before the old auntie forced me into taking one (we are in the endless loop of SE Asian reciprocal gift-giving, it’s been going on for four years, sometimes I just.. can’t eat any more. She then tried to give me coffee!)

Tried the plant-based bulgogi fried rice from #ParadiseGardenGrill , and I really liked it. The pieces look remarkably like beef. After I ate a couple pieces, I could tell that it wasn't beef because the consistency was a little different.
