How Melting Arctic Ice Leads To European Drought And Heatwaves

maps - The Combined Drought Indicator—used to identify areas affected by agricultural drought, and areas with the potential to be affected—estimated for the first 10 days of each month from April to September 2022. Credit: European Commission, Joint Research Centre

maps - Climatological mean (a) SST, (d) meridional winds at 700 hPa, (g) 2 m air temperature, and (j) precipitation minus evaporation in summer (May through to August). Regressions of (b, c) the SST (colour shading) and 700 hPa winds (arrows), (e, f) the meridional winds at 700 hPa, (h, i) the 2 m air temperature, and (k, l) the accumulated precipitation minus evaporation on FE in (b, e, g, k) the first and (c, f, h, l) the second summer (May through to August) after the freshwater anomalies (indicated by the “+1” and “+2” in the titles). We removed large-scale trends from the air temperature to reduce the direct warming effect of greenhouse gases (Sect. 2), and we excluded the anomaly in 2016 since it exhibited a different spatial SST distribution from the other anomalies (Fig. A1). Thick contours encompass regions that are significant at the 95 % confidence level, and the red and blue dotted lines in (b) and (c) delineate the regions in which the SST anomalies exceed 2 ∘C and fall below −2 ∘C.

One the two talks I submitted to the conference was accepted, on methods to objectively prioritize where to fund sidewalks based on pedestrian demand, safety and equity.

I love that the Indiana GIS conference accepted my title of "Guerrilla Mapper". The theme of the talk ideas I submitted were are all about how citizens could use mapping to affect change outside of the usual government+consultants model.

Are there any route mappers that are able to chain bike and bus trips? I was trying to route a trip using bike trails and buses with bike racks along Cape Cod and it wasn’t an easy task. (It also overestimates the time to ride along trails, making bike trips look a lot longer than they really are.)

Mapping question about something I’m seeing in Gaia GPS in the “Outdoors” layer.

The map shows a purple line that follows some roads and trails. If I zoom in the line is shown as purple dots. These purple dots indicate a route?

I finally found a label for this purple line, but so far my internet searches find nothing about this “Cross Snohomish County Hike & Bike Route.”

Clearly this route exists in this map. Where did it come from and how can I learn more about it?

Some people would take a photo. I shot 156 * 48MP = 7.3Gpx of data, computed a 3d model in WebODM and rendered it with moody lighting in Blender, as one does.

(Final toning & vignette in LuminarAI, just for completeness.)

I'd like to make some maps to understand who can access a particular location by public transport.

I'm imagining specifying a small area and drawing all the public transport lines that intersect that area. Bonus points if I can filter by timetables - it's for church and Sunday timetables are a pain.

Can code something if needed but I've not worked with map data before. All ideas welcome :) tyvm!

Ink and wash rendering of Wells Cathedral and environs.

Done with a mixture of prewitt filter on normalised depthmap (edge lines) run through a threshold, , mixed with shadows

Vicar's Close, the street north of the cathedral, is pretty interesting

The GeoJPG web app version 2 is ready for use. 🥳 🎉 🍻 📣 You can view your own custom maps offline on both iOS and Android devices with NO ads, NO tracking, NO signup and NO fees.

I developed the GeoJPG web app as a public service and part of my way to ‘pay it forward’. This is not a commercial product of any nature. I am making this freely available simply because I can.

GeoJPG is not available in any app store. To install it for offline use, open the web app link, tap “Yes” and then carefully follow the instructions you will see.

Future Changes In Global Atmospheric Rivers Projected By CMIP6 Models

https://doi.org/10.1029/2023JD039359 <-- shared paper

maps and charts - (a) Atmospheric river (AR) characteristics, including duration, interval, area, and intensity during the DJF globally. The central plot displays the increase in AR frequency between the far-future (SSP585; 2070–2099) and the historical (1980–2009) periods, with the climatological AR frequency in the historical period represented by the contours. Black dots indicate unanimous frequency changes among CMIP6 models. The red rectangles are the boundaries of the target regions and the black hatches are the selected land regions. The surrounding plots show 2D Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) maps for AR characteristics over the historical period and far-future under different scenarios displayed in the bottom right corner for eight regions. The univariate distributions of the characteristics are shown on the outer axes of each subplot. (b) The comparison of the KDE maps for three selected regions with ARs detected with GuanWaliser_v2 and Mundhenk_v3 AR detection tools (ARDTs). Note that only the SSP585 scenario is available for the far-future period in these two data sets. The legend is the same as in Panel (a). Note that the figures of PanLu ARDT are presented based on daily scale data sets, while the figures of GuanWaliser_v2 and Mundhenk_v3 ARDTs are presented on 6-hourly scale data sets due to data accessibility.

The shading represents the differences between the far-future (2070–2099) and historical (1980–2009) periods, with contours delineating the historical climatology. ARs detected with the PanLu, GuanWaliser_v2 and Mundhenk_v3 method are all shown. An improvement I made to SFMemory is a map view of any search. If an image is mapped, you can view it in relation to others in found in your search.

transit: https://sfmemory.org/maps/mapsearch.php?q=transit

aerial: https://sfmemory.org/maps/mapsearch.php?q=aerial

(not all images that may come up in a text search are mapped, I'm way behind on about 2000 postcards)
