The Grand Guignol is opened in Paris by Oscar Méténier.
From its opening in 1897 until its closing in 1962, it specialised in naturalistic horror shows. Its name is often used as a general term for graphic, amoral horror entertainment, a genre popular from Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre (for instance Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, and Webster's The Duchess of Malfi and The White Devil), to today's splatter films.
A 2020 general rematch between #Trump & President Joe #Biden is becoming increasingly #inevitable. #NikkiHaley has vowed to stay in the race through at least the batch of primaries on March 5, known as #SuperTuesday, but was unable to dent Trump’s momentum in #SouthCarolina, her home state, despite holding far more campaign events & arguing that the #indictments against Trump will hamstring him against Biden.
Petersen felt…he’d tapped a new vein of #nihilism in modern #politics —a desire to rip down the #Elites, whatever it might mean.
…In further research, he & co-researchers asked subjs how much they agreed w/several stmnts, incl’g:
“We cannot fix the problems in our social institutions, we need to tear them down & start over.”
”I need chaos around me—it is too boring if nothing is going on.”
“When I think about our political & social institutions, I cannot help thinking ‘just let them all burn.’”
“These [need-for-chaos] individuals are not idealists seeking to tear down the established order so that they can build a better #society for everyone,” the authors wrote in their conclusion. “Rather, they indiscriminately share #hostile#political rumors as a way to unleash #chaos & mobilize individuals against the established order that fails to accord them the respect that they feel they personally deserve.”
Nihilism: The Root of the Revolution of the Modern Age
The answer, at first thought, does not seem difficult; several obvious examples of it spring immediately to mind. There is Hitler's fantastic program of destruction, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Dadaist attack on art; there is the background from which these movements sprang, most notably represented by several "possessed" individuals of the late nineteenth century...
"The Sunny Nihilist: How a Meaningless Life Can Make You Truly Happy"
by Wendy Syfret
A fantastic book that is doing what I've been wanting to do for a while and figure out how to frame the feelings of my dirty #leftist agenda in a way that propaganda fueled westerners would accept. Rebranding #Socialist ideation as #nihilism fueled #activism is wonderful and is going to effect my outreach language going forward.

Congressional MAGA Republicans took an oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution,” while intending to weaken and destroy the very democracy that seated them in the House and Senate. That’s what they’re doing: dismantling U.S. democracy.
Congressional moderate Republicans took the same oath. They’re betraying it by condoning Trump’s lawlessness and having failed to vote for his impeachment and removal from office.
Anything that can't go on forever will eventually stop. 40 years of declining worker power shattered the American Dream (TM), producing multiple generations whose children fared worse than their parents, cratering faith in institutions and hope for a better future.

The American #neoliberal malaise - celebrated in by "centrists" who insisted that everything was fine and nothing could be changed - didn't just lead to a sense of helplessness, but also hopelessness. #Denialism and #nihilism are Siamese twins, and the YOLO approach to the #ClimateEmergency, #covid mitigation, the housing crisis and other pressing issues can't be disentangled from the Thatcherite maxim that #ThereIsNoAlternative.
Any news organization that reports the news about #McCarthy endorsing an #impeachment inquiry without CLEARLY and AT THE TOP stating that there is no meaningful reason for such an inquiry is doing journalism wrong. Too many orgs already jumping into the gamesmanship.
