A bit of today! This is a General Instrument 824-566-000 ANIC (Asynchronous Network Interface Controller). This box sits in the headend PC and converts SCSI (!) to asynchronous (Manchester coded 13.98kbaud) Jerrold DataChannel data. It's an embedded 286 PC...!

Tonight on Forbidden Cookery, it's amazing how many people think potting a circuit in resin will stop miscreants like me from pulling it apart. It's like putting a Masterlock on your bike and telling the Lockpicking Lawyer that it's impossible to break... 🧵

I've recently discovered the ISDT CM1620 charging modules.

They're pretty cheap (~140€) and promise some pretty good specs:

  • ~11-70V / 1100W input
  • ~8-70V 20A / 1000W output
  • LiHv, LiPo, LiFe 2-16S balance charging
  • Control via Micro-USB, Bluetooth, RS485, CAN or an optional controller with display

From our tests, they work fine, even at max load (16S 15A).

However, they do have some quirks...

The back of the charger with vent holes, input and output XT60, three USB-C ports, a button and a 17-pin JST-XH for balancing

One for the folks. Can anyone suggest what this Toshiba microcontroller might be?
TA8821AP M-GIC 136-346-000.
Probably custom for General Instrument, but based on a standard part.

I sucessfully reverse engineered 3.3.5a to fix the awful scaling of the damage numbers that was bothering me since ever.

Turns out, they have a flag called EGxStringFlags_FixedSize which wasn't used. It disables the scaling and makes the numbers appear a little smaller but crystal clear! Wohoo!

There's a part of me which loves old aircraft instrumentation. I was talking to a friend about a speech synthesizer ROM and on the same page was a ROM dump from a Sundstrand GPWS (Ground Proximity Warning System) system. I wonder if I can extract the sound?

So this person went ahead and depopulated a Nintendo Switch Lite PCB, soldered a wire to each pad that had a component and then ran a program to determine what is connected to what. To make the result usable, they took a 6000dpi photograph and made the result available as a boardview file. I know nothing. https://usoldering.com/switch-lite/

has anyone done a project for reverse engineering the PCBs of the Hand386?

I've been thinking of making a replacement keyboard for it, and I don't want to have to duplicate work if it's already been done

I'm working hard on the Picamera2 driver for . Most of the key controls are implemented now - I can enable and disable automatic exposure and white-balance.

Next job is to scale the gains and convert them to integers (Pyuscope can't deal with floats), and make them read-only when AE/AWB are on.

Colour temperature get/set is also on the planning board.

I'm into an odd mix of Perl/Raku, C/assembly language, and sometimes Kotlin.

I found an instance which is on my maybe list.

Bought a for .
The specs are impressive, especially for the price point of a few hundred euros.

  • 48V / ~200A
  • 12.5 kW peak
  • 165 Nm peak

The main difficulty lies in finding out the commands for initialization and control.

I don't have access to a Mercedes E200 EQ Boost (or similar), so "just sniffing" is out.
Maybe somebody could help me with that tho? ^^'

Where do I see the file/format/disc header found in https://ia800200.us.archive.org/26/items/BMUG-TVRToo-Update/TVR%20Too%20Update.iso (https://archive.org/details/BMUG-TVRToo-Update)

It's not ISO9660 but I don't know the right keywords to search for much older CD formats.

Previously this asked: Does anyone recognise a file header of 42 44 AA 25? But I don't think this is the actual file header.
