Sorry, but you can't convince me that the test of a reusable rocket system is supposed to involve destroying the launch site—which was reusable on every prior generation of space flight technology—and launching debris thousands of feet away.

is not a serious company, it's a clown show, and it should not have a single dollar in government funding, much less billions.

Elon's "extremely hardcore" toxic work culture means people are forced to take Adderall without a prescription to meet their workload. Just ask SpaceX employees.

"Some SpaceX workers resorted to taking Adderall to keep up with the pace of work at the company's launch facility, and others found themselves falling asleep in the bathroom during long workweeks, a recent Reuters investigation found.

"Travis Carson, a former SpaceX worker at the company's facility in Brownsville, Texas, told Reuters some workers took Adderall — a stimulant designed to help people with ADHD improve their focus and concentration levels — without a prescription to keep up with the pace of work."

So now guess what? Elon's space junk is screwing up radio astronomy too.

Anybody surprised?

And the plan is to let him launch 30,000 of these monstrosities!

I don't know. Maybe staking the latest attempt to reboot manned lunar exploration on what is less a a rocket designed for a particular mission and is more yet another stainless steel ideation of the raging ego of a narcissistic man-child was possibly a mistake?

Good piece in the NY Times about Elon Musk’s but it only lightly mentions WHY he is in this dominant position - is the only one reliably launching rockets at scale into right now!

  • United Launch Alliance’s (ULA) Vulcan Centaur is repeatedly delayed
  • Arianespace’s Ariane 6 has been delayed for years now

Neither may first launch until 2024, & then they have to grow to launch at the scale needed.

Why is actually worth it: A thread.

It is clear that many people only saw a chance to pile on Elon Musk from the Starship explosion last week, and that's a shame.

Because, whatever I might feel about Elon Musk, Starship is the most innovative and potentially disruptive technology in the industry for decades. And this is an industry that desperately needed the shake-up.

So I'm going to talk about why. It may take awhile, because there's a lot to cover.

SpaceX:
Our Starship rocket successfully passed the "Clear the tower" test. Congratulations to all!

The fact that 5 of the 33 engines failed is a minor aesthetics issue. We did indeed reach a low earth orbit for a number of seconds, albeit a very low one; technically an orbit with a very short apogee and a perigee inside the Earth's body.

Next goal, achieve separation and celebrate it with amazing extra loud fireworks 🎇 🧨! Stay tuned!
