So in addition to cluttering up low earth orbit, wrecking terrestrial astronomy, creating the potential for a Kessler Syndrome cascade which could close access to space, and creating a national security nightmare, Starlink internet access is a climate catastrophe using up to 30 times more carbon footprint per internet subscriber than land based internet.

The #night #sky in 2023.

This shocking #photography was obtained from #Montana (#USA) over 17 minutes. It reveals the crazy number of #satellites orbiting the #Earth. Most of them are #StarLink (from #SpaceX / #Musk) and aim at providing internet to some remote places.

StarLink is not the only project for space-based #internet: there are also #Kuiper (#Amazon), #oneWeb, #Iris2 (@EU_Commission), etc... which will send even more satellites into #space

So now guess what? Elon's space junk is screwing up radio astronomy too.

Anybody surprised?

And the plan is to let him launch 30,000 of these monstrosities!

For years, the media built up Elon Musk and got the public to buy into the myth of his genius. Now the truth of who he is can’t be hidden and changing how they cover Musk isn’t enough.

The media failed us. They not only need to inform the public about the harms of Musk’s empire, but change how they cover the entire tech industry so another grifter can’t replicate his rise. They owe us nothing less.

Elon Musk has long opposed unions, but now he’s taking his war on workers to an entirely new level.

In Sweden, Tesla wants to blow up the Nordic labor model, while SpaceX is echoing the Federalist Society by trying to destroy the NLRB in the United States. He must be stopped.

The US decision to privatize space has given Elon Musk immense power over how satellite communications are used and who has access to them. He controls 53% of active satellites in orbit, and countries have started voicing concerns to US officials. They won’t speak publicly for fear of the consequences of angering Musk.

“I still am in shock that a rocket system, the largest in history, will be fired off, from an inadequate facility, in the middle of an endangered species habitat, by a company that revels in the beautiful failure of explosions with seemingly no guardrails and no respect for the real danger this operation presents to the public.”

Sorry, but you can't convince me that the test of a reusable rocket system is supposed to involve destroying the launch site—which was reusable on every prior generation of space flight technology—and launching debris thousands of feet away.

is not a serious company, it's a clown show, and it should not have a single dollar in government funding, much less billions.

Surprising almost no one:

"Return-to-office mandates at some of the most powerful tech companies — Apple, Microsoft and SpaceX — were followed by a spike in departures among the most senior, tough-to-replace talent."

And regarding managers, one person posits: "Maybe managers leave shortly after mandates ... 'because it’s easier to manage a team that’s happy.'"

Tech billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos tell us the world is dying, but if we support their plans for space colonization they’ll save humanity.

On , I spoke to Mary-Jane Rubenstein about how space colonization is an extension of previous forms of colonization, and is built on the same religious ideas even if its promoters don’t use religious language.

: What may look like a strangely nearby galaxy is actually a normal rocket's exhaust plume -- but unusually backlit. Like noctilucent clouds, the plume's brightness is caused by the Twilight Effect, where an object is high enough to be illuminated by the twilight Sun, even when the observer on the ground experiences the darkness of night. The spiral shape is caused by the Falcon rocket reorienting to release satellites in different directions. Credit: Seung Hye Yang

So basically we give a crap ton of money to a Nazi’s personal space program (where he takes a large chunk for himself) so they can explode giant rockets instead of continuing to fund NASA properly, like we used to do, so that they can successfully launch rockets because…I’m losing the thread here.
