I'm asking for help. If you have the spoons to spare, could you help me find a replacement for this ceramic dish? I am hunting for an exact pattern match—"The Blueberry Plate," my 8 yr old niece's favorite dish. She accidentally dropped her plate while trying to get it to the sink. 16P Proximal Deletion Syndrome, another type of neurodivergence in my family, can make muscle tone, coordination, and proprioception difficult. THANK YOU!
@BZBrainz@Adhdinos@actuallyautistic What country are you in? And what was the diameter of the plate? I haven’t found it yet, but I’m still looking, mostly on eBay.
I am looking at starting a series by Yasmin Galenorn, midway through Wired for Story by Lisa Cron, and reading a study guide for case management. I’m a mood reader. #book#autistic#actuallyautistic

Was deeply engaged in a difficult conversation today when a book caught my attention across the room. “Is that Unmasking Autism? I read that earlier this year.” It was an optional opening for optional disclosure. It changed the questions he felt comfortable asking, changed how I provided education, and it ended be a deeply satisfying and helpful exchange. Today was a real win. #autistic#actuallyautistic#autism@bookstodon

When you’re an independent author, you are your own marketing team! And my marketing team forgot to post my weekly Late-Idenified #AuDHD: A Starter Workbook post.
I wanted to share a couple of the violent and homophobic responses I received after talking about my spouse of 20 years. We are an Out, Queer, Neurodivergent couple—this will not be the first or the last time I receive comments like this. This sort of behavior is not acceptable and the community should be aware of these screen names. #queer#lgbtqia#pride#autistic#adhd
Today I’m in the process of resetting my project management system for quarter 3 (Q3). I’ve had people tell me they’d rather pull their own teeth out than do a project management at home. 🤷🏼 This process for me is very satisfying—color coded—and most of all, it works for me. Do what works for you! #adhd#audhd#actuallyautistic

I have a over-coomplicated todo-system with multiple levels of backlog for private and work "projects" (which I usually call "quests"). I moved from Hansoft (an older commercial software which is free for tiny teams, and as it's just me, that works) to Notion, but I might one day write my own software which will suit my AuDHD brain better.
In any case, having a place where I can put tasks I don't have to try to remember myself reduces a lot of stress!
I binge-read The Murderbot Diaries (1-7) by @marthawells, and now there are no more out, and I'm feeling unmoored. I have a very long TBR list, but... I want more Murderbot. Difficulty with social reciprocity, comfort in rewatching favorite series, disliking eye contact or touch, and so much more. I get why reviews say this series is "one of the most human experiences you can have in sci-fi." @actuallyautistic@bookstodon
@oldmankris I also enjoyed that series, but it’s been well over a decade since I read it and I can’t recall if I completed the series. I’ll revisit it. Thank you!

Did you know that if you live in the US, you can ask your #library to order #books? Budget constraints exist, but if we don't ask for our bookstores and public libraries to carry books written by #autistics for autistics, many voices are missing from the digital & physical spaces. Please consider how your requests help diversify what is available publically and keep expanding your requests to include more voices. #actuallyautistic#autism#audhd
Absolutely agree. NT librarians are also more likely to only know about well-reviewed and bestseller autistic authors like Grandin and Robison, and autism parent books, and think that's good representation.
It's not that they can't do the research, it's that the librarians doing the selection work are frequently overworked, and have limited time and a lot of pressure to make every penny count. The lowest hanging fruit is usually the mainstream stuff.
Requesting a few specific title/authors and linking to reviews can really help. Introducing resources like ASAN so they know why these voices are so important is also a plus.
Then spread the word that the books are available locally. If they don't check out, the odds of them getting more goes down because shelf space is finite.
This message is brought to you by a long time library worker who wants to see more #ActuallyAutistic authors on the shelves! ;)
A few I’ve requested at my library are Neuroqueer Heresies: Notes on the Neurodiversity Paradigm, Autistic Empowerment, and Postnormal Possibilities by Nick Walker. The anthology Gender Identity, Sexuality and Autism: Voices from Across the Spectrum and Unusual Medicine: Essays on Autistic Identity and Drug Addiction by David Gray-Hammond.
I love my cats. I anthropomorphize them. They provide a quiet, steady companionship and comfort I cannot find in people. They comprise a fundamental part of my home and routine. When something is wrong with my cats, the world is wrong—everything about my day and life is broken without them. Please have compassion for those that grieve for and love their animals. @actuallyautistic#actuallyautistic#autism#autistic
If I'm away from my dogs for too long, it just pains me. I need to have them near me, they mean so much to me and I don't have a good way to articulate how integral to my wellbeing they are!
Saying 'I love my dogs' just doesn't do our relationship justice!

If you read large print or dyslexic font paperback books do you prefer this to be indicated on the cover (say on a banner at the top) to help you identify the accommodation?
I compiled a quick poll based on different perspectives I've read.
➡️ Please consider sharing to help me reach more readers.
@rayckeith@bookstodon Thank you, Ray! Absolutely. I think I’ll edit my original post as I meant to use those words and instead directly transcribed my notes.
In addition to expanded social and medical vocabulary, I’ve also been working on an expanded accommodations section, building out the resource list, and more. Very likely, this workbook will experience ongoing updates every one or two years to remain relevant for people new to their late-identified #AuDHD. ❤️ #adhd#autism#attentiondeficithyperactivitydisorder#actuallyautistic
My notes from my early in the (autism +ADHD) AuDHD diagnosis process…short essays, drawings, notes, and tables of information I created as I processed what I learned about being #AuDHD from the world around me. I lent those notes out and after feedback… some of it turned into a workbook. #actuallyautistic#autism#adhd#adhd

I had an interesting conversation with a good friend about states that require diagnosis of #autism to be registered with the state and the future implications this could have paired with laws that restrict access to care for #autistic people. I’m only familiar with a couple of states that require registration and that’s New Jersey and North Dakota. #audhd
@BZBrainz@actuallyautistic yes, it made a big difference. On the other hand, being a #cannabis user he can't go pheasant hunting with us on family land or hold a job that involves federal licensing. Oh well, its still a good thing for him despite the trade offs.
Tweet shared to the FB group Feral Neurodivergent Raging Meme Posting and now here with you. I’ve been down and this was the first thing that made me laugh today. I hope it makes you laugh too. #actuallyautistic#autism#autistic
@BZBrainz my wife and I were just sitting here having a discussion about why I misunderstood what she was meaning and seeing this men was perfect timing.
