since am one of those #ActuallyAutistic people Dx at the tender age of 50 (yes, 50. and yes am older now, shut up), am not acquainted with the american rituals of national days or awareness months involving autism.
Dear fedi folk:
I want you to know how much I appreciate you. I'm at-risk for Covid, and still mostly isolating. So your funny, random, informative and thoughtful posts are my water-cooler, my community radio. Your posts bring me laughter, reflection, learning, & sometimes outrage - all of it good. Sometimes you even catch my #dyslexic typos.
Thanks for being in community together with me. Keep being kind, woke, informative, funny
Keep being you. I like it!
-- Deb 🙏
#Dyslexic friends, how do you handle having your spelling corrected? This week I’ve had an email telling me about a misspelling on my website (admittedly that could be useful to know but it’s still not something I really want my contact form used for) and had comments at work on spelling on drafts (that were shared for convenience and I thought it was clear they weren’t the final version). I always think of myself as ‘not very dyslexic’ but then I wonder if that’s an oversimplification! #Neurodiversity

If you read large print or dyslexic font paperback books do you prefer this to be indicated on the cover (say on a banner at the top) to help you identify the accommodation?
I compiled a quick poll based on different perspectives I've read.
➡️ Please consider sharing to help me reach more readers.
@bookstodon many months ago I received feedback that some readers disliked how I labeled my large-font edition of Late Identified #AuDHD workbook. So I could do better, I asked.
The majority that participated reported they wanted the accommodation labeled on their paperback in a visible way.
Currently sleeping the sleep of the righteous, @andrew was up way too late building tools to fend off the current wave of fedi spam, playing whack-a-mole with bad accounts, and getting fedi friends up and running with their own blocklists.
I’d like to convene a discussion this week or next to do a mini retro on this attack and some #designthinking work around fedi spam fighting tools. If you’re interested in the discussion, @ me your email or send one to spamretro at hypatia dot ca and I’ll loop you in on it 🙏
Would love to have a proper UR/UX person on the call, I’m a mere amateur at that part 😅
"In 1976, Loupekine introduced … a very general way of constructing new snarks from old snarks by cyclically connecting multipoles constructed by pulling out a path of length 2 from smaller snarks. In this paper, we use … lifts of voltage graphs formed by a similar construction to produce a variety of snarks which can be drawn with m-fold rotational symmetry for m≥3."
I've been #dyslexic all my life. At 68, I still cannot write by hand with any facility. Buying my first word processor in 1982 literally changed my world.
The failure of my electrical system this winter has meant I haven't been able to use my desktop computer since October. Now, my laptop has died. I'm startled by how disabled I feel.
I desperately want to write a piece about the consequences of the West's performative contempt of the #ICJ for world #peace, and I just cannot.
Did something I very rarely do and kept a pen and ink in rotation after I'd finished it.
The more I use this pen and ink the more I'm enjoying it. Which kinda feels mad as it's one of more affordable/obtainable pens in my collection. But the ink is so lovely for actually staying purple on yellow paper #JustDyslexicThings and the fude nib just so versatile with line width, particularly if you use reverse writing. ✒️ #FountainPens#FountainPen#fountainpenink#fountainpeninks#dyslexia#dyslexic
I am working on a revised cover for Late-Identified AuDHD: A Beginner's Workbook (retitled 2nd edition). I've been repeatedly advised that using a dyslexic-friendly font in my work is unprofessional. Well, I am a professional with dyslexia... and the use of dyslexia-friendly fonts is a professional choice. Hard line.
I'm really happy with the design of this kickstarter game. It arrives at just the right time, too! #CozyJuicyReal
It's designed by skilled facilitators, & was deeply play-tested, and it shows.
The stretch goal of an online version was reached \o/ so I can also use it with friends far away! There's even a Hug card. Heck, we all need some of those, these days. You know, for that person crying on the subway.
I even read the instructions (& I never do that, it's usually too painful) #dyslexic
Aside: I notice we use both #CaPoli and #CanPoli here in Canada. I will never forgive the internet standards people for going with the 2-letter iso names instead of the 3-letter ones for country-TLDs and language-codes.
3-letter codes would prevent the "is CA Canada or California".
The biggest countries use 2-letter state/prov codes, so 3-letter countries would prevent ambiguity.
My site should be Pxtl.can, written in en-can not Pxtl.ca written in en-ca.
Any dyslexics out there willing to share? I am reviewing my font selection process. I understand that studies so far show that fonts specifically for dyslexics work no better than fonts like Arial and Times New Roman. At the same time, I am looking at contemporary webfonts. What fonts work best for you? #Dyslexia#Dyslexic#Accessibility#a11y
