@rbreich consumers have some power. They can buy what they need not what they want. Snacks, soda, expensive trucks, etc are unnecessary. Companies will react if consumers cut spending
@fmhilton he is sucking the money out of the RNC but he is a puppet. He’s controlled by the Federalist Society and multiple billionaires. Once he’s of no use the Federalists will find a new puppet.
@cdarwin my mother’s oldest brother died of polio as a toddler in the 1920’s. His parents held him in their arms while he gasped for breath then died. Apparently, the #republicans have decided to bring that back. They’re mentally ill and they’re going to condemn a lot of people to a horrifying death. It’s time to vote out all #gop representatives
The #republicans have been in power in #Texas for over 25 years. They’re running ads telling #voters to #vote for them so they can fix what’s broken. The #gop broke Texas and now they want you to re-elect them to fix what they broke. Really?
Considering several of the rioters were carrying weapons, built a gallows and planned to murder the VP, Pelosi and a few other congressmen isn’t too alarming to RFK Jr. His extremism is very disturbing #vote as if your life and freedom are on the line because apparently it is
The Colorado-based property owners allege that HRM Resources, a company backed by private equity group Kayne Anderson, bought uneconomic wells from Chevron and other producers and used a corporate restructuring and bankruptcy scheme to dodge its liability to properly close them down. ClientEarth, the non-profit legal group that filed the suit on Wednesday, said it was aimed at industry practices broadly.
One of my neighbors had an A/C failure. They called a well known company in the area and they charged $1,900 to fix the A/C. It lasted one day. Our neighbors needed help so my Mom called our handyman and he called an A/C guy that has just started his business. He fixed the issue for $300. We’re setting #heat records. Please be careful who you hire to fix your A/C. Name brands don’t necessarily mean you’ll get the help you need #business#summer
#Louisiana Senator’s feefees were hurt when he was cursed by a constitutient. Of course LSU is willing to punish the constituent because #republicans control the purse strings of the university. The #GOP are willing to destroy lives but don’t want to be called out for doing it
Others have said this. More and more, I think it's true: the Homeowners Association (HOA) culture on the Fediverse is hurting it.
Except, people who tend to push an HOA agenda don't even tend to be "homeowners". They don't code. They don't run servers. Many of them are recent arrivals to the Fediverse.
I don't bring that up to say that anyone's more or less important because they code or admin or have been active for awhile. But surely, if you're going to be a gatekeeper, you should have something to qualify you as the self-appointed enforcer of the HOA.
Usually, these self-appointed gatekeepers have never made any investment in this community. Instead, the HOA are outright hurting this community by being unwelcoming jackasses.
Just to give an example, why has #BlackTwitter soured on #Mastodon? It's the HOA in action. And who's currently uttering death threats to server admins? It's the HOA. They are toxic, and everywhere they go, they spread toxicity.
The worst FUD about the Fediverse isn't even coming from the likes of Big Social or Bluesky or the Press. It's from the HOA.
Who's spreading fears about "embrace, extend, extinguish"? It's the HOA. Who's creating uncertainty about whether ActivityPub can survive a corporation's use of it? Again, it's the HOA. And who believes that the Fediverse will die because something happened without their approval? It's the HOA every time.
The HOA has no authority here. The Fediverse has no board meetings, never mind a board of directors. Their decision making power is a complete delusion, a total fabrication of their collective imagination.
To be blunt, I'm done with entertaining the HOA's bluster, speciousness, and pretensions.
From here on out, at least on spaces I have tangible power, I'm gatekeeping the gatekeepers.
@atomicpoet every time someone tries to tell me what I can and cannot do with my account I block them. I think it’s the only option that will bring peace.
I’ve moved to @mastodon.social I’ve been informed @home.social is going away. It migrated my followers but it didn’t follow accounts so I’m trying to take care of it #mastodon
