I was just reading the official guidelines for image descriptions from the Swedish Agency for Accessible Media, and it confirms to me that here on Mastodon we are generally using a very high standard of #altText description.

And we got here by advising and educating each other, not any professional training, so well done us! 👏👏👏

Back in May there were only about a million active Mastodon users (see link). Now there's about double that. All during that period I was seeing the active numbers shrink and praying to all the gods that we would get through it.

And we did. And it makes me SO HAPPY to see people return to Mastodon and say, "hi, I see you're all still here, talking about cool stuff". And I'm like, yes, that's why I stuck with it.😇

Yesterday I learned that Tolkein was well aware that his name in German originally meant 'foolhardy' (tollkühn).

That means "fool of a Took", with 'tok' also being a name that means 'fool' in Nordic, WAS A JOKE AGAINST HIMSELF.

Wonder why media treats vaccine 'sceptics' and climate 'sceptics' and immigration 'critics' with kid gloves?

It's not some conspiracy and the journalists generally know these people are full of shit. The answer is simply that these groups are able to deliver stunning amounts of 'flak.'

They are able to make life hard for media who cover them in an accurate way. They comment, they complain, they harass. Eventually the media self-censors.
