CONFIRMED: "Threads" is the name of 's new -enabled social media, also codenamed , , & .

URL: https://threads.net
IPv4: 157.240.22.63
IPv6: 2a03:2880:f231:c5:face:b00c:0:43fe

I recommend everyone block threads.net in their domain blocking lists, and every in the to all Meta's IP addresses at the firewall level before they go live on the on July 6th: read https://mastodon.moule.world/@MOULE/110586556696261405 for more info!

MOULE,

Here's a list of and commands for admins can copy and paste into their server's command line to bulk-block all packets to and from IPv4 and IPv6 addresses owned by :

https://drive.google.com/file/d/16syQy-HMIb__cEBua6y-ZZDYGfXwYf01/view?usp=sharing

Sources:

  1. https://www.asnlookup.com/ipv4/31.13.24.0/ (including other CIDRs listed on the page)
  2. https://datakra.sh/assets/lizard.txt (the 2,024 domains listed here have been found to use either of 26 IPv4 addresses, which I have updated the list on my Google drive with.)

MOULE,

Here's how to threads.net on 4.1.0 and above (I'm unsure about how to do this on other , sorry:

FOR USERS:

  1. Create a txt document
  2. Type "threads.net" (without quote marks)
  3. Save as "blocked_domains.csv"
  4. On Mastodon, go to Preferences > Import and Export > Import.
  5. For input type select "Domain blocking list".
  6. Upload blocked_domains.csv.
  7. Click "Merge" so threads.net is added to your block list. Do NOT click "Overwrite"!
  8. Click "Upload"!
MOULE,

I've read that some users are vowing to leave the because they are on a server that has agreed to federate with 's app, or they're on a server that has not made their position clear on whether they'll federate with Meta.

I'd recommend reading https://fedipact.online to find 418 servers that have pledged to block Meta you can migrate to, though not all are open for registration. Among the biggest are pixelfed.social, mastodon.nl, mastodon.art, pixelfed.de, and others!

The Associated Press just served me an ad for fake anti-virus. The entire page was taken over, and forwarded to the malicious site, within seconds of opening the news article, every time.

An ad blocker isn't just something to hide some annoying eyesores, it's a vital layer of security.

If you have friends or family who might fall for fake AV or "windows technical the department" scams, they need an ad blocker. No site they visit can be considered "safe" unless it simply doesn't have ads.

MOULE,

@r000t It's funny how the fake malware scanning page calls some of the malware "Win32" even though it's served on an Android device :MOULE_Ha:

MOULE,

There should be a equivalent for shops, like a decentralised version of Shopify, Etsy etc that emphasises indie creators, and uses ZERO "big tech" like Amazon or eBay.

You could set up your own instance or join someone else's dedicated to a theme, sell and ship your products, interact with other shop instances, and your shop's items could appear as if it were a post on Mastodon, PixelFed etc. for those who are on an ActivityPub server running said software.

Just an idea. :Fediverse:

It never ceases to amaze me how news websites think readers who want to read a 1-minute news article would be like "Yeah sure, let me just disable my ad-blocker, create an account, and take out my credit card and buy a subscription to read this"

New music out soon: Halcyon (Remix)!

My first release in 2024 is an energetic, happier drum and bass remix of my first release in 2020. I'm very proud of how I mastered the track! :MOULE_Happy:

You can pre-save and listen to a preview of Halcyon (Remix) here:

Everyone should set up their own web server at least once in their life, even if it’s just a temporary one, and learn about how to buy a domain name, set up DNS, how to install server software, set up a web page etc. It’s a very educational experience and a useful skill to have, especially to be in more control over your online presence!

MOULE,

As I've left Twitter/X and joined the Fediverse, it's done wonders for my mental health and I'm not so obsessed over stats like the former site and mainstream social media in general encourages.

I'm no longer focusing on trying to outsmart algorithms. I'm now focusing on using music and art to soundtrack my own world (what I wanted to do all along) I now call the :MW: and all its events and characters! :MOULE_Happy:

I'm in quite a grumpy mood today, so in addition to my new angry artwork I shared earlier, here's the pre-save link to my equally angry 99th release "2023 OVERHEAT" out everywhere tomorrow:

Unapologetic doomer at 100 BPS (beats per second, AKA 6000 BPM) soundtracking the ongoing climate crisis with heat records, ice loss records, fire records etc. all being smashed this year.

Right! Back to being grumpy. :MOULE_Ha:

What is a word that you had read, but after hearing it spoken aloud, you realized you were pronouncing completely wrong in your head?

Mine is pretty Embarrassing, and is just one of many!

MISLED! I'm not even sure how to type this out for it to make sense, but it was something like:

Myz-ulled

MOULE,

@RickiTarr When I was younger I used to pronounce words as they were spelled, hence I called islands "is-lands". I also used to pronounce "chimera" as "chai-merra"! :MOULE_Ha:

Numerous others I can't remember as well.

MOULE,

@n3wjack I’ve had a listen to the fourth one from the top and I’d say it’s progressive house? I’m admittedly not that great with genres 😅
