A possible @lowqualityfacts : cats are evolutionarily hybrids of plant life. Because of this, they tend to find patches of sunlight by instinct to feed the chlorophyll components in their blood left over from earlier stages of their evolution.

@GottaLaff heh. This is one of those things people probably knew without any research/confirmation needed. The motivation/behaviour is probably that we do not throw away pills because they are expensive to buy.

Funny timing to see this, because I just took a Tylenol that expired in 2016. 😅 I don't think I've ever looked at the expiry date the rare times I take something in my medicine cabinet!

Technical Cat Question

Edit: I have decided, as we have no guests, to store it in the guestroom cupboard, which has 2 doors!
Zaz has become obsessed with chewing my exercise mat, even rolled up. She finds wherever I hide it, no matter where I put it. If I can reach it, so can she, only more easily. I don't have a cupboard with a door (if I did she would work out how to open it or scratch the door to pieces to try to get in).

@EllieK does she like chewing anything else? Like a catnip toy? The only thing I can think of is to give her something more tempting to chew and reinforce the behaviour with that other object. Whenever you see her about to do it, give her something tastier. Do it every time and maybe she will go for that item instead!

Ah I'm sure there must be someone from the community who can contribute expertise! I mean I've been using moka my entire life. I wouldn't claim expertise but maybe life experience tips. It can be a tricky device & maybe even depends on the model you use. eg we had an old Bialetti for years, no issues, same procedure every morning. I asked my mom to bring me a newer model from Italy a few years ago, the Brikka, and have had nothing but problems with it!

@coffeegeek @coffee @espresso I also have a very old Vev Vigano model I inherited, which made amazing coffee every time, but the gasket is finally disintegrated. I haven't found a replacement gasket for it (but haven't really tried hard to look for the right fit). Hmm you've inspired me to do a proper search now lol.

@baldur I saw this comic yesterday & it's related.

I heard the term "futurewashing" recently to describe people who are using singular, superficial/short-sighted approaches to imagining future-state experiences. Tech people often can't (or are unwilling to) perceive layered, nuanced, or multidimensional impacts of technology. I suspect it's related to the toxic silicon valley culture, which is purely profit driven & motivated towards self-fulfilled prophecy - if they hype, the profit will come

I spent 5 years writing FAQ pages and "talking people off the ledge" each time there was a collective meltdown.

I stopped doing that because it is never ending.

I keep saying the same things over and over.

In 2021, when people were demanding indictments, I said, "indictments are the start of a long harrowing process."

I explained that trials are harrowing.

Judges make bad decisions.

Juries don't always get it right. A person can be guilty but be acquitted.

@Teri_Kanefield all of this is true, of course. But it hits different, especially with the Jack Smith Jan 6 criminal case, to see the justice system fail so spectacularly.

Why? Because of the non-legal-system part of it. we all saw the coup with our own eyes - and eyewitnesses like Liz Cheney and Cassidy Hutchinson and so many others have entire books on it.

Because the second impeachment made it clear he broke laws and the Jan 6 committee laid it out in such stark clarity thereafter.

@Teri_Kanefield it's incomprehensible and enraging that it appears he's going to get away with his crime on your nation, four years after it happened. The coup was successful if people can't trust the rule of law to work in a manner that stops a person with the ultimate power in your system from subverting it, and that's what this case is premised on.

Today someone accused me of stealing a joke that I posted. I told them I write everything I post myself and asked if they could show me the original joke that they thought I stole. I guess they were unable to find it, and naturally, instead of admitting they were wrong they proceeded to block me. I am many things (a fiend, a heathen, a self-proclaimed titan of industry, etc.) but I am no joke thief.
