So I had a nap just so I could manage to do the dishes. That "little" task took all life out of me again.

Usually I say "don't do what I just did" but this time I an proud to ask everyone who just had a top surgery to be just like me - if your wound suddenly oozes puss, call healthcare provider and get to ER for antibiotics ASAP. When caught early, there wont likely be any issues with healing and they can remove any unmelted stitches as you go. <3

I am okay, newly bandaged, unstitched, and medicated and getting good after care -and still very much on my sickleave.

I think once I am ready, I will write a horror book all about dysphoria. It will be full-on body horror.

And soon I can speak about it from the safe space of recovery. Draw horror from within without reminding myself of the reality I have lived in for 22 years.

I have a working name for it already. Catharsis.

@hiisikoloart FYI, if you happen to find Suzy McKee Charnas' Hugo-winning short story "Boobs", that's what made me go "oh wow" in 1991 (when a translated version showed up in Aikakone).

By the way, here is my oldest surviving laptop bag—a limited edition bag for an Apple Powerbook (1xx series) from 1993-ish. I can't imagine today's Apple releasing anything remotely as playful.

REMINDER: ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and other large trained neural models are NOT "artificial intelligence", they're just stochastic parrots, remixing and regurgitating what they've been fed. There's no theory-of-mind involved, so no understanding: there's no "there" there. (A real live parrot exhibits more intelligence than this.)

Don't call it AI; call it parrot-tech. That way you'll have a better perspective on what it can (and can't) do.

WRITERS: anyone else taking Semaglutide (Ozempic™, Wegovy™, Rybelsus™, etc) and finding it demotivates you for writing?

GLP-1 agonists aren't just antidiabetic drugs that cause weight loss, they also seem to reduce reward-seeking behaviour, eg. alcoholism. And for me, writing has always been my obsession.

But I'm on Rybelsus (for type II diabetes) and it's been a real slog this past year. I'm just starting a project that SHOULD be obsessive and instead I'm just … meh, don't wanna.

@cstross I started Rybelsus on 1st of September, and stopped taking it on 7th. Side effects became too hard to handle. I tried again on 1st of October, took it only once (3 mg) and I was back to side effects.

I just... find it disturbing, that the side effects of the medication would under any other circumstances considered health-risking or indicative of eating disorder. (i.e. gastroparesis)

Intentionally induced by doctor's prescription? Oh sure, go on, them <slur> need to feel it.

    Happy cat day
    Rupert loved to be vacuumed. He would throw himself down in front of whatever was being vacuumed to make sure you didn't miss him. He'd roll around to make sure you got everywhere, even his tail, using the nozzle. Molly, though, had a running battle with the cleaner, hated it.

    @EllieK My family had a half-Angora cat, who loved to be vacuumed, especially in summer as it seemed to bring cool air under her fur and help with shedding. Not only vacuumed, but you also had to comb her at the same time and worship her tuxedo floofy highness with attention.

    We used to entertain guests with the act of pulling out vacuum cleaner and having her run and flop on the floor, right on her back so we could get the best parts.

    I'm presently living in a building with proper HVAC and filtration and what that ultimately means is I have a dry scalp for the first time since 1997. It looks horrible close up. I literally showered this morning and it's... distressing to look at, to put it mildly.

    Wondering what the solution to that is other than "shave head" or "shampoo every single day, thus making my hair look like shit."
