Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

@khalidabuhakmeh revealed in the latest @breakpointshow that his standards for new hires went down the longer he was a manager (to give people a chance).

As someone who he hired later in his tenure, I'm glad that I met him when the world had worn him down enough to hire a train wreck like me.

I miss paid work and I miss Khalid. :(

Polling is broken now that scammers have taken over voice calls. Only weird people pick up the phone.

And every election has been good for dems since Dobbs and people fucking hate Trump. So I’m hoping that these political fumbles won’t give us a dictatorship.

We are telling them to stop and don’t do this. You attacked a diplomatic mission, retaliation was inevitable and Irans response was relatively muted given it was in the form of easily shot down munitions.

Given that the US and the UK did a lot of the shoot downs of the drones, Israel seems like a chihuahua that barks and barks and gets into fights that its owner has to clean up.

We shouldn’t shield them again if they go on barking.

Ukraine not conscripting anyone younger than 26 seems insane to me. Yeah, it sucks to sacrifice the younger generation to this war, and it is nice to see a state trying to save its younger generation.

But I think most states would not hesitate to conscript all men of age in the event of a massive invasion. And 18 year olds are just in better shape than 40 year olds.

Just a weird dynamic.

I don’t see Israel recovering from this war. They’ve burned all of the good will they had after the 7th. They don’t control the narrative anymore.

I will never forget the interview I listened to of Refaat Alareer on Popular Front. His kids screaming in the background as bombs exploded in the neighborhood. I remember thinking “this man is a dead man” and he just seemed like a decent man trying to live his life. He died soon after.

I think many people have had moments like that.

I have a bunch of alcoholics in my family. I’ve never shown a propensity for it, but I’m still wary of it.

So I’ve avoided alcohol, especially at home, since I started care giving full time. Life is too depressing and stressful that I’m afraid that I’d lean on alcohol for an escape. Which wouldn’t be good given the fact that I’m the only thing keeping us going.

Recently I’ve been drinking Guiness’s nonalcoholic beer with some meals and it has been delightful. Beer just enhances meals.
