Is there a path?

Well, there appeared to be one a minute ago, maybe, sort of. But now it just looks like some leftover water from high tide. Which may not matter if my plan is to make it to the sea . . .

Life at the beach is a constant reminder of the temporal nature of things: what was there last night may disappear without a trace by morning.

Is there such thing as a Great Awakening? I suspect that if there were, it would be quickly taken over by the authorities of the day and reconfigured to their satisfaction.

Quite fortunately, awakenings happen every day, one by one in individuals, as we see a truth, a light we had not been aware of before.

We all have mementos, treasures, items that call to mind good memories, times with special people, journeys and adventures. Sometimes we use them; other times we simply display them, but they are there to take us a place and time of recollection.

It's a hidden, secret enclave a couple kilometers from Polignano a Mare on the eastern coast of Italy, although to the locals, it's not so secret.

A prime spot for swimming and boating, the Cala Port'Alga Cove is the perfect location to spend a sunny afternoon in. Bring some water and a lunch, and you're all set.

Thoughtful is an interesting word because it can mean someone who thinks a lot, and because of that isn't easily manipulated, and also someone who thinks about others a lot, acting with corresponding compassion and understanding.

Young children don't need toys and technology to learn; they acquire knowledge through observing and being in nature, and allowing free run of their imagination.

I postulate that we adults, who have been trained out of this means of educating ourselves, could benefit by letting our wild spirit run free.

It's understandable that if we want to go someplace, we want to get there quickly. That's why we have freeways.

But there are days when we want to get someplace and there is no freeway, simply a winding country road that looks intent upon taking its time. And we can either be frustrated, or accept the road for what it is, and enjoy the view along the way.

When we're little, we jump in puddles without worrying about getting our feet wet. What matters is that splash, and the ripples it creates.

When we're older, we focus so much on not getting our feet wet (which is mature, and understandable) that we risk missing out on that joyous splash, and the ripples it creates.

We need both: reflection and action.
