EDIT3: i'm going to close this to new submissions since they've slowed to a trickle now

new to mastodon? do you make cool shit? if you've got under 100 followers, reply to this with 1-4 images of stuff you've made and i will boost you to my 5.8k followers, because i want people who do creative work to find a place on mastodon

please note i will be spacing out boosts to not spam my followers too much

EDIT2: if you're a composer (or do similar non-visual work) you should probably drop a link to where people can listen to your work. maybe add cover art if you have any

EDIT: if i miss your post it's likely you're on an instance mine has muted, I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do about that

@eniko I'm not NEW, but hey still under 100!

We are working on our very first indie game! It has and more. We also post our journey using and learning

@efi @eniko hm good points. It was originally a copy of our Twitter bio stuff which was... Stuffy. I'll make it better! Thanks

@WuffMakesGames I literally watched that star twinkle for 30 seconds... I don't know why and I'm afraid I'll do it again lol

Soooo.... here's a fun Fedi thing which is bad.

I've been getting notifications about this conversation since it started and I have no idea why.

Several people are talking about me, but seemingly nobody knows I can see this. I replied to somebody who was outlining why they don't watch my videos anymore (which - fine, but I felt they misunderstood my intention and wanted to clarify) and that caught them off guard.

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@TechConnectify huh weird. I for one didn't care or understand the fediverse until I joined kbin and saw the actual power of the federated connections.

Data just being data regardless of source is sort of the dream of the internet isnt it?

@rose ya... Definitely followed this curve like exactly. Still have a django/wagtail site up, but the WordPress one just saved me so much setup time.

ironicaccount, to gamedev

while I barely get a chance to tinker on my platformer these days, for a while I've been considering attempting to unify wall sliding and sliding on steep angles, because I wanted to better handle curved surfaces and rotating colliders

this is my first proper attempt and I think it's going to work! I even get a little Akira slide when a slope becomes a floor

demonstration of a character controller inside a rotating room where floor becomes a slope then a wall

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@ironicaccount that's reaaaaaly smooth looking!

@Tearcell oh, your pfp is goblin-skin person with bunny shoes trapped in air by three ribbons.

I've spent multiple days thinking it's four legged alien red robot swinging its tank-like middle body for fun.

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Foxysen omg! In fairness that's pretty cool too!

jonqs, to godot

Spent a lot of time on visuals but I'll go back to gameplay now. I like the overall look for now still some issue (flickering, tiling...) but I'll let that to future me !

@jonqs Visual polish is hard, but oh so satisfying when you get it right!

Ok, I'm facing once more this specific license: https://github.com/katharostech/bevy_retrograde/blob/master/LICENSE.md

I was wondering if you could circumvent the ruling by declaring you'd follow some other god but it's a bit more precise on the ruling in the later parts of the license.

Also, "obscene", ah right, the blank card to forbid everything they don't like. Would that even have a standing in a lawsuit?

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Ronflaix man and I thought gpl was restrictive!

How do you stay motivated when your development gets tough? 😵‍💫

Asking for a friend.

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@LeoSandbox Market your game on the major platforms! That part is so tough, time consuming, draining, and demoralizing you'll beg and do anything to get back to the coding and art!

Who else spent countless hours playing this classic 90s game?

Starfox 1993 Snes

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@LeoSandbox A starfox clone is definitely on my bucket list of 'projects I'd love to make someday'.

"Marketing Wisdom" seems to be these sort of games don't do well unless they are Starfox itself, so that just means I can go all in on a passion project.

Fellow community, we need to make official a new genre of games among gamers communities for games that resemble classic MMORPGs but aren't actually massive.

I hate to say I wanna make MMO and everyone thinks I'm saying I wanna make a new "World of Warcraft" when what I mean is a "micro-Ragnarok" or "bitsy-like Ultima Online" 😭

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@cuca in GW 1, towns are shared spaces but the over world /missions are for your current group only.

Based on the rest of the conversations I don't think this is quite it!

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@cuca like mmo lobby systems sort of like Guild Wars 1?

Tearcell,

@Woedenaz Oh! Yes I've read 4205 before! The format screw is obviously very memorable, but I loved the emotional journey of the poor researcher a lot.

Will check out 4801 later today

@upmultimedia I... Kinda am the same way. I actually like content there and have it feeding me alot of cool and positive stuff.

That did take alot of work tho.

A standardized platform for playing games on the web could be great or terrible - the greatness would come from standardizing the web gaming experience. Would be great for the 2D projects I have in dev.

I saw a post on Lemmy the other day asking "What petty hill will you die on?" and I wasn't sure what to say at the time but I sure do now:

Fake/sample orchestral instruments are the worst. I hate them.

Less so in smaller budget projects but big budget projects have no excuse.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 16 and the abundance of canned orchestra samples is, frankly, embarrassing for a game with a bigger budget than the GDP of some countries.

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Woedenaz I dream of one day having the budget for a real orchestra in a game! It's astounding people wouldnt when they can.

hoo boy was I worried about this hash tag lol

Then again I still clicked so...

Sound design

The team became smaller. Now I will have to deal with sound design. I have an example of two big scenes where many hours, many days were spent on sound design another team member... I have no experience in this, so it will take a long time. A lot of work!

For now, I plan to spend a month on it. But there are a lot of scenes and they are big.

But I planned to write code to handle the console API. This will affect the release date.

Tearcell,
@Tearcell@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@maxim and you can't skimp on sound... To important and cut corners are super obvious. Sucks that happened.
