I swear I planned to only drop off books to the #LittleFreeLibrary, but I decided if I brought this one home with me, that would free up space for one more book to go into the library :) @bookstodon
I'm so bone tired after another day of packing up that POD, so apologies for not replying, or simply replying with a "like." I can barely read, let alone type.
So, with that, I shall collapse, but not before posting another dopey #CountdownToCanada gif.
POD #2 for our furniture comes tomorrow, as do my twins, down from BC to help us! We leave in 5 days! #Canada 🇨🇦
Have a good evening. 😴
President #Biden just announced his 49th round of nominees for federal judicial positions — bringing the total number of announced federal judicial nominees to 240.
I wish he had expanded the Supreme Court. The last time it was expanded was because the number of Circuits had increased to 9. So that is how much the Supreme Court increased to. Now there are 13 circuits. So surely the Supreme Court should be increased to 13 justices???
@davidpwhelan
I'm just curious, is there a law preventing things like voter intimidation?
The reason I'm asking is because there's a bald rightwing arsehole who is trying to recruit sheriffs and like minded citizens to "watch" polling places for "illegal immigrants" who are trying to vote.
I know you cannot campaign within a certain distance of polling places, and does this include voter intimidation?
Stephen Miller planning the Great Purge: Recruit ‘red state’ deportation army of law enforcement and National Guard to round up immigrants, rip them from their homes and community, and forcibly deport them.
I really need to start keeping notes on how/why I put a book to my TBR pile. The East Indian by Brinda Charry was added about a year ago, and I don't remember how I found out about it. A truly unique tale about an Indian boy winding up first in England and then Virginia during the 17th century efforts at colonization, for me this book is historical fiction at its absolute best. It might be one of the best books I pick up in 2024. #FridayReads#Fiction#AmReading#Books#Bookstodon@bookstodon
Should you wonder about surveillance capitalism, AI and VR — here's a book from 1964 you should read, IMHO:
"Simulacron-3 is the story of a virtual city (total environment simulator) for marketing research, developed by a scientist to reduce the need for opinion polls. The computer-generated city simulation is so well-programmed, that, although the inhabitants have their own consciousness, they are almost entirely unaware that they are models in a computer simulation." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulacron-3
My wife and I LOVED that film. We lost it in a house move and when we went to Amazon (where I had originally purchased the DVD) it was unavailable!!!! 😡
@TCMuffin@mina
What I notice is that it's RETIREES who voted to leave. This reinforces my personal opinion that it's the laziness of the remain voters (not bothering to vote) that caused this debacle.
@TCMuffin@mina I'm sorry that I seemed to tar ALL retirees with the same brush. Obviously not ask retirees voted to leave, just as not all working age people voted to stay. Unfortunately, it is apparent that most retirees voted to leave and not enough of everyone else voted to stay.
Then there's the issue of that effing bus and the blatant lies that were spread...
@EverMama8_
This is why Britain had that BSE crisis. US feed companies were putting sheep brains and spines into cows feed. The sheep had a disease called (I think) Scrapy.
Fucking Youtube,,,,, They have decided to block ubo along with all the other ad-blockers...... The problem with these arseholes is that the adverts sometimes last longer the the fucking video you want to watch in the first place. Well, youtube, sling yer hook.
I'd like to update this, it seems that YouTube have something against Vivaldi. When I tried watching videos on Firefox (my other browser) with UBO enabled, I didn't have a problem.
@Vivaldi no, I believe YouTube had changed its algorithm so that Vivaldi was blocked. When it had been updated out started working again with no problems.
I went to the lake this morning, hoping to find some birds feeding. While out there, I saw a bird flying above the lake and started taking pictures. Turns ns out it was an Osprey (Pandion haliaetus). The bird was a long way off, so the photos aren't that great, this one shows the bird right after catching a fish. But darn it all, I missed the dive and splash.
"Unique among North American raptors for its diet of live fish and ability to dive into water to catch them, Ospreys are common sights soaring over shorelines, patrolling waterways, and standing on their huge stick nests, white heads gleaming. These large, rangy hawks do well around humans and have rebounded in numbers following the ban on the pesticide DDT. Hunting Ospreys are a picture of concentration, diving with feet outstretched and yellow eyes sighting straight along their talons." - allaboutbirds.org
