Someone said it's important say this publicly in the US: so I will. (And I think each of us should, online and to friends)

This November I will vote for Biden.

I would regard not voting for Biden, particularly in: PA, OH, MI, WI, IN, IL,VA, GA, FL, AZ, ME, NC, NH, etc. as a huge error. I'd be disappointed to find out anyone I knew didn't vote. It's one of a long list of things we need to do. We can't skip it.

And still? We deserve better choices, and in the future we shall have them.

@MisuseCase I think that it would be more accurate to say that attacking Rafah is part of the effort to destroy the possibility of a deal. If this war ends too soon, before the "legal coup" can go through, Netanyahu is likely to face early elections... And as far as I know, he's still at risk of going to prison for corruption if he ever loses the prime minister's seat @Sherifazuhur @bmacDonald94

@stefan very cool. I was going to bring up something I'm collecting notes on right now (a networking tutorial to set up file sharing, bittorrent, and VPN at home) but I can't think of an angle that would be nearly as elegant as the examples you brought up.

Watch for it: They'll say not all Gazans are Hamas—the Gazan leadership—but imply all Israelis are the Israeli leadership.

And they will do this even though the Gazan leadership started this war and are amongst the dregs of the earth—hostage takers.

I take no sides. I do not need the tsuris. I am not Israeli and have no Israeli relatives. I stay uninvolved. If you call me an "ilk", you do so either because I am a Jew or because I have pointed out that YOU are an "ilk" and you do not like it.

@chemoelectric not just Likudniks, although they're definitely the most brazen about this kind of stuff.

Regarding mathematical fate, that's a little beyond my expertise. However I do have a lot of experience in movement organizing and I can say that what you are describing is:

  1. A serious danger that not enough is being done about
  2. Inaccurate. That is, there are several competing structures in play, and it is not fated that one or the other will emerge as the dominant one.

@chemoelectric the problem is that when you are implicitly leaving in factors, but not doing anything to rule out different possibilities of what the relevant context actually is, then each person who is looking at your thought experiment is going to see different things decisively influencing the outcome, and different things being negligible, and so come to a different conclusion.

As the universities (which are not run by a secret Jewish cabal) crack down on protesters using the police (which are not run by a secret Jewish cabal) and local governments (which are not run by a secret Jewish cabal), I'm pretty sure some press release from the ADL, one random shitty Jewish lady on tiktok, and the nefarious existence of checks notes Hillel and campus Chabad will inevitably get all things blamed on a secret Jewish cabal.

Except for the GoodJews™ of course! They're good!

A few weeks back I encountered a FOSS guy here explaining that when he sees open source devs ask for money, he blocks them and then stops using their code because they're morally wrong and he only wants to work with tools made by people who are doing the work for the right reasons. (I'm paraphrasing to avoid indexing the post.)

I've resisted writing about it because I'm slammed, but the question I can't shake is: Who benefits from the ideology of "pure" volunteerism?

@kissane This is a class warfare tactic. People who can afford to work for free get paid in social capital instead. The rest of us are locked out of those opportunities.

When I was in the IWW this was a serious problem.

I'm sure that you that the legal definition of genocide is much broader than extermination.

I'm also sure you're aware of statements by Israeli government ministers and war cabinet members that are unequivocally calling for actions that are considered genocide under intl law ("transfer"), with the Putinist excuse of "war is war."

I suggest that you spend some time looking at credible reports on how extremist attitudes (that is, reflecting the pro-genocide position) is proliferating within the IDF and Israeli society in general. There was a good one some time ago called the "Smotrichization of the IDF," or similar, but I'm not sure it was translated into English. Do you read Hebrew?

Sure. I had second thoughts about that bit. Next time I'll listen to them. And you don't call people antisemites baselessly, please.

When you accuse someone of antisemitism, you should back your accusation up by an understanding of what antisemitism is, its history, and its tropes, not by sarcastic statements about Sudan. It doesn't show that you care about Jews or Sudanese.
