The bear is still sleeping 🙂 .
I wave to him every time I paddle past.

One of my favourite mushroom finds: the Blue Stain Fungus (Chlorociboria aeruginosa). It grows on rotting wood.

The Hoary Rosette Lichen surprised with beautiful colours. This patch is about 3 cm across.
Found this treasure right in town.

Yay! We have internet, but the radio station is off. Snowstorm isn't over yet. No busses, the roads still need to be cleared.
Let's see if and how I can keep my appointment in an hour 😬.
Meanwhile, a White-breasted Nuthatch taking a look at the world.

A Six-spotted Tiger Beetle showing off his mouth parts. Depending on the direction of the light, he appeared metallic blue or green.
They can run incredibly fast and are fierce predators.

This morning the Monarch was ready with its metamorphosis into a 🦋 and flutter out into the world.
I checked again an hour later and all that was left was an empty bag.

A large Mirage/Fata Morgana on the horizon of the North Channel of Lake Huron yesterday, mirroring islands with trees, maybe. Looks like a long bridge but there is no bridge.
They are fairly common on the Great Lakes.

The micro world was colourful today: lichens with the pink fungus Illosporiopsis christiansenii that parasitizes some lichens.

Long lens shot down the road: a Pileated Woodpecker inspecting a wooden fence built from pines cut down a few years ago. Lots of holes/worms already in the wood.
Our local crow tried to chase him off but Woodpecker held his ground 💪 .

When this male Raven is sitting in this tree, looking bored, I just know that the female is in the nest, nearby, incubating.
A month earlier than in previous years. It's very cold for another week at least.

Little white stars, blooming now in the forest: the Starflower (Lysimachia borealis).

The Black-capped Chickadees demanded a toll today for entering their forest to photograph fungi and lichens.
The currency was sunflower seeds. Shelled!

The shallow shorelines of the ponds are now covered with the beautiful flower spikes of Pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata)/ Hechtkraut.

The first Turkey Vulture arrived. He may regret it because there's a snowstorm warning in place for the next 24 hours.
Also lots of new Robins pulling worms out of the garden soil.

Found this pretty Northern Ground-Cedar yesterday. It's a Club Moss and neither a cedar nor a moss.
They are some of the oldest plants on Earth, once tree-sized, a few hundred million years ago.

Welcome back, tiny one 😍 .

Flowering now: Rock Harlequin aka Pale Corydalis (Capnoides sempervirens) is a delicate plant, growing near lakes, often in cracks of boulders.
