But anything that happens in the present is, by definition, imaginable."

@inquiline Casual comparisons should be eschewed and it would be both tactful wise to set a rather high bar to avoid giving gratuitous offence. However a comparison with what happened to the people forty years before - in some cases at the hands of the same individuals as participated in the subsequently - would seem entirely appropriate.

The Parliament that the have been running since 2019 has the dubious record of being the only Govt. that has overseen a real-terms decline in household income in 70 years.

The chart also may be of some concern to Labour supporters as it shows consistently on this measure the historically have delivered higher growth in loving standards than Labour... but of course, Labour had delivered much not covered (nor valued) in this data!

@ChrisMayLA6 It would not be particularly difficult to add what are now called "individual government services" to real household disposable income. These have been part of the System of National Accounts for at least thirty years and could be back cast to 1955 without too much difficulty. These would favour somewhat but probably not overwhelmingly!

Allow open Jewish immigration to the states that wanted it. Jerusalem could be like Washington DC in that it's not under any state, independent of any religion/ethnicity but ensured access to everyone.

How Adani won a coal block as the sole bidder in a government ‘auction’

In August 2022, the Adani Group won ownership of the Gondbahera Ujheni East coal block in central India, despite there being no other bidders in this so-called ‘auction’. The process is about to be rerun for another coal block in Madhya Pradesh for which Adani was the only bidder. These deposits of coal underlie swathes of forest that are the homelands of tribal indigenous peoples.

Imagine you are given the opportunity to design an ideal society. You can structure it any way you want. Now, repeat the experiment, but this time there are two things to keep in mind: 1) after setting up the system, you will be reborn into the world you designed with no memory of having designed it, and 2) you will be randomly assigned a gender, race, age, wealth, intelligence, and ability level. This thought experiment was created by philosopher John Rawls (1921-2002).

For exactly the same reason as I find myself justifying Muslim fears of ethnic cleansing in the light of what has happened in Bosnia and Rakhine and why I am being taken to task currently for suggesting that a second Nakba is a more immediate risk than a second holocaust.

One example might be the description by of the current conflict as a "second war of independence". Given that the first war of independence was associated with the and included extensive this may well be interpreted as encouragement of renewed - albeit on a basis that was informal and thus readily deniable.
