If you're looking for something to reflect upon to commemorate this anniversary, I hope you will take a look at this documentary made by Israelis, about an Israeli researcher who looked into the Nakba events of a particular town, Tantura, and what he found. It was an Official Selection of the 2022 Sundance film festival.

It is not an easy watch. But a very necessary one.

Aid trucks headed for were destroyed by fire in the West Bank, video posted on Tuesday, 14 May shows.

Footage obtained by Reuters showed vehicles by a barrier wall in Beit Awwa, west of Hebron, alight.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames but the vehicles and the contents appeared destroyed.

It came after protesters blocked aid trucks in a protest at Tarqumiya checkpoint.

@Amputado I think "rioters" or "agents of guerilla warfare" is a megaton more appropriate than "protestors" when we're talking about Israeli settlers, which is already a violent and oppressive position to hold in the grand scheme of Palestinian rights.

I would love to stop seeing that word used when we're talking about people committing illegal, genocidal acts of insane violence for no reason except to be cruel and punishing. That is not "protest." That is terrorism.

Judge Cannon has postponed Trump's classified documents trial and didn't set a new start date.

The Supreme Court is slow walking Trump's classified documents case, which has delayed his Jan 6 trial.

The federal judiciary is effectively acting like a MAGA campaign arm.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich We need court reform!! I want Biden to use his mandate once re-elected to do something about this disastrous super majority Supreme Court. The way Alioto, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and the others jump in to try and help the lawyers doing Trump's bidding... the corruption is so obvious. It's disgusting.

Gotta respect the doubling down! Replying to me posting some dude saying "Trump is worse!" then blocking me, with saying "Trump is worse!" then blocking me too! The commitment to the bit is impressive!

Listen, you can get as mad as you want. You can call Black folk criticizing Biden "Bitching" if you want. We're still going to do it.

The CDC under Biden dropped the Covid isolation period from "5 days" to "vibes days." Not Trump.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@mekkaokereke Hang on there friend, comparing the Biden CDC to the Trump CDC misses an important point, which is that it was in 2018 under Trump that the US office responsible for pandemic preparedness was disbanded, leaving us at much higher risk levels for exactly the COVID-19 scenario, and Trump recently said he'd repeat the same mistake if he's re-elected.

Whatever you think of Biden, Trump is actually worse, in all the ways. A selfish billionaire would disagree, I guess.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@mekkaokereke Who said anything about excusing Biden.

I'm talking about using comparisons that are fair.

But considering nothing Trump does is in good faith, and he's in obvious cognitive decline, I'm not sure why the one you outline is the conversation anyone would bother with.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@mekkaokereke LOL I didn't even go into the link you posted b4 but now I have and you know what? Anyone who would compare the presidential terms by number of people who died from COVID is not a serious actor. You can't be serious. I'm no data scientist but why would we compare a data set from 10-11mos. data collection with another that was years of data? Esp. when we're looking at the spread of a disease which increases exponentially with time? Relevant metric: what was done to halt the spread.

This trend of all gender bathrooms with multiple stalls. I don’t get it. Honestly it feels anti-trans to me or maybe it’s just anti-women. But I have fewer bathrooms I can comfortably use if the one on the floor I’m on is all genders.

Any one want to discuss? I’m not trying to to attack anyone I just really can’t fathom who we’re serving here. As a woman I need a space that I can retreat to. Not bc I was taught to be afraid but bc I’m a survivor of domestic violence.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@ttpphd thanks so much for responding. I don't have any hangups abt what body parts a woman was born with, my attitude is welcoming to any transwoman. It's funny bc I've def been in all gender bathrms that even had urinals and felt completely fine, but in restaurants and event spaces that were designed to have just one enormous bathroom, like the inside equivalent of the portapotty line. It's the crappy college bathrooms remade into all-gender just by charging the signs that weird me out.

fixiemama,
@fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

@ttpphd I've been non-confirming all my life, but for me that just means I'm a feminist, not that I'm not a woman. Starts with the whole "women are people too" from the 70s, my mom was all about it. Femininity is a social construct, but womanhood is a vibe.

@RickiTarr oh yeah I love kale, that's why my kid went grocery shopping for me and I said get me some kale, that's what he got. But I live alone now, and the bag was literally the size of my torso when he brought it. We had to eat some just to get it to fit in the fridge. I usually eat kale like 3-4 times a week. To get through that bag it was more like every meal. Lol. Thanks for coming to my TED talk 😂

    @ferricoxide When my grandmother died there was a lot of stuff that no one could take, items that were just historical relics, not something useful or good for displaying. So my aunt found a museum in the town where she was from (in Indiana) that took them as a donation. She had to mail it all there but the alternative was to throw it all out, which we did not want to do. I bet charities have ways to accept things, do an estate sale, and do good with the funds. Just an idea!

    @GottaLaff To be fair, the officers across this nation throwing people in jail are not all fascists. Just look at Rikers in NY. It Is a jail, not a prison. No one held there has had a trial. Yet some have been held there for years, not even accused of a crime. So what @enoch_exe_inc is saying is not outlandish. That being said -- there are plenty of legit reasons to throw DJT in jail!!! So it's nonsensical to suggest we should do it without a reason!

    "Why won’t the U.S. ratify the U.N.’s child rights treaty?"

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2014/11/21/why-wont-the-u-s-ratify-the-u-n-s-child-rights-treaty/

    "The group fears that ratifying the treaty would mean children could choose their own religion, that children would have a legally enforceable right to leisure, that nations would have to spend more on children’s welfare than national defense, and that a child’s “right to be heard” could trigger a governmental review of any decision a parent made that a child didn’t like."

    Imagine choosing your own religion!

    WaPo screenshot 2: But is the U.S.’s non-ratification of the CRC hypocritical when the U.S. lectures other countries on children’s rights? Farris says that the “United States demonstrates its commitment to human rights whenever it follows and enforces the Constitution of the United States, which is the greatest human rights instrument in all history.” The currently all male-staff (Farris says the group has never focused on maternal leave as an issue) of ParentalRights.org and other opponents of the CRC overlook that protections for the rights of children are human rights. Protections of children with disabilities are protections for people with disabilities. Ending discrimination against children is ending discrimination against people. Ensuring paid parental leave, access to pre- and post-natal health care for women has been linked to better health outcomes for children and parents. The United States can learn from other member nations on how to reduce poverty, ensure women’s rights, improve education and educational access, and healthy living conditions, for starters. What message does the U.S. send to the rest of the world when we endorse and support young activists like Malala Yousafzai, and her platform for girls’ rights to education, when the U.S. refuses to ratify an international treaty that promotes access to education for children?

    fixiemama,
    @fixiemama@mastodon.social avatar

    @ttpphd Children should have a legally enforceable right to leisure -- play is where they get so much learning done! Crikey. smh
