Happy people can't be monetized, this is why billionaires and tech companies need to keep you unhappy, angry, or scared. Resist. Be happy.

Co-workers are not your family. You may like them, become good friends with them, hang out with them, help them move in exchange for pizza, but calling them your family is a way companies manipulate you into doing unrealistic things, things you would and should only do for real family.

While It's still ok to eat the rich, it's also ok to just put them in your compost pile. They are 98% shit and will be good for your veggies next year.

If you're making an indie pixel art game, tag me with a screenshot and I'll boost you!

When playtesting your game the most import thing to do is shut the fuck up. Don't help them. Don't tell them how to solve their problem. Just watch. Study the things they tried. Do this for a long time. Live their pain and confusion. Then go back and address what they struggled with. I see too many devs that jump in and help, then never fix the problem. Live their confusion.

The problem with voting for fascists is that you may agree with them now, but when you no longer agree with them there is no way to vote them out. They have made sure of that.

PSA: If you're putting a link in Mastodon, please include the https:// part so Mastodon turns it into a clickable link. I see a lot of artists promoting stuff on itch.io who fail to create a clickable link.

The year was 1985 and I stole my first Mac. Apple had just released the Mac and wanted companies to make things for it. They gave HESware (where I work before Lucas) a Mac. No one at the company was interested in it so I asked if I could take it home for the weekend. When I got back to work on Monday they laid everyone off. I filed to mention I had the Mac at home. I've used Macs ever since.

Roger Ebert once said "The Muse visits during the act of creation, not before. Don't wait for her." I am constantly forgetting this as I procrastinate writing only to discover her again once I start.

I gave up over a 150,000 followers on Twitter to be on Mastodon full time. Yes, the engagement and reach is a lot less, but I'll build it back up and it will be worth it. I hate to see people run back to Twitter because of friends or careers or whatever. You know what changes that? Being on Mastodon and bring those people here. Musk is a horrible person, don't be one of his enablers.

I would be happy to view ads on a website if:

  1. They didn't autoplay video.
  2. They are static images (reading with unnecessary motion is distracting).
  3. Ads didn't target me and we're related to the site I'm on.

Advertiser created the mess of adblocking and they want to solve it by force me to see ads. Ads in print magazines don't bother me because they don't violate the above rules.

Whenever some online customer support chat comes up, I start asking it programming questions about python to see if it's just AI. Someday I'll reach a real person at Bank of America who knows python and we'll both be very confused.

Reminder: A company's real product is their Quarterly Report. What they make or service they provide is just collateral damage.

There is a reason companies close studios and cancel projects at Christmas... taxes. It's the end of the year and they want everything done before the new tax year. It's not that they just want to be mean and cruel at Christmas, it's that being mean and cruel at Christmas saves them more money. See, not has bad as you thought.

If you ask 10 game dev friends to play your game's prototype/alpha, 5 Won't even download it, 3 of those who download it will boot it once and say "looks great, I'll try it this weekend" and never do. 2 will give you feedback, only 1 of those will give you useful feedback. Cheer up, It has nothing to do with how good your game is, it's just math.

If Apple (incorrectly) suspects fraud on your iCloud account they can lock you out with no way back in, which would then kill all your passkeys. I don't see why Apple or Google should have the power to lock me out of every website I visit. Passkeys are not a well-thought our plan. Apple and Google love it because it locks you into their device.
