remember kids: the point of the html "class" attribute is to list out the explicit formatting of every element on your webpage.

CSS was supposed to split formatting from HTML! and it did.

now instead of horrible HTML like <font size="7" color="red">, we have CSS!
So our HTML can instead look like:
<div class="size-7 color-red">

note: you'll need to include a few hundred KB of CSS libraries to make this work properly, but that's the price we have to pay for elegance

@unlofl Just gonna hang onto this for when my IT Department says the semantic HTML documentation I wrote for the so-called "shadow IT" projects they refused to do for me is too confusing and should be templated Word doc.

    What's more correct:

    A) She was choosing what band's t-shirt to wear.
    B) She was choosing what band t-shirt to wear.

    mechawatts,
    @mechawatts@toot.community avatar

    @ZachWeinersmith Seems like A implies that the band is the criteria, and B implies there are only band t shirts to choose from.

    Wikipedia isn't perfect, but it's more reliable than all but a fraction of actual people, and there only in the subject of their expertise.

    It's funny, since "AI," how reliance on Wikipedia has ceased to be particularly controversial. I do wonder what comes next. "Donny, we don't telepathically crowdsource answers in this classroom!"

    mechawatts, (edited )
    @mechawatts@toot.community avatar

    @fatsam @kkarhan Wikipedia is a nonprofit. No one would chase the AI rainbow if they weren't expecting a pot of gold for their trouble. That's why it'll never be trusted enough to be useful.

    I finished the final "Legacy's End", quest, taking down the Key for SysDef.

    It was a suitably climatic ending, but also... draining. To kill all those NPCs whom I had "befriended" during my undercover mission (or at least traded barbs with)...

    Well, nobody said that undercover work was for the faint of heart. But even though I enjoyed it, I don't think I will replay that quest line any time soon.

    Now, back to ending the terramorph menace!

    mechawatts,
    @mechawatts@toot.community avatar

    @juergen_hubert I declined to participate in the UC's operation out of contraryness and got an invitation to join The Fleet anyway. I wonder how different my experience will be. Were the UC coordinating your involvement at all?

    mechawatts,
    @mechawatts@toot.community avatar

    @juergen_hubert I did not have to do any of that! I'm curious to see if my path will also lead to destroying The Key, but I put CF Missions aside because the bounties were getting exorbitant (no matter how non-violent I went about them)

    My tip thread:

    If you need to sell contraband, fly to the Wolf system (near Sol) and find the space station called The Den. The system doesn’t scan you for contraband.

    At The Den, head left in the main hall and there’s a dodgy geezer who works for the Trade Authority who will buy anything - human organs etc.

    So I watched The Dark Crystal with the 9 year old last night and it's always disappointing how weak of a movie it is. I found it only makes sense if you assume Henson just had lots of ideas for cool scenes with advanced puppets and then just loosely strung together a plot with vaguely fantasy-sounding dialog.

    mechawatts,
    @mechawatts@toot.community avatar

    @ZachWeinersmith You may want to give the prequel series on Netflix a shot. It was canceled (of course, b/c Netflix) but it's pretty satisfying overall.

    What is something that you thought might be true for a bit but turned out not to be?

    I read a story in a kid's church magazine about how the sound of people talking "during Bible times" was accidentally recorded on a clay pot by a potter's wheel... and that "scientists" had recovered ancient sounds.

    The librarian wasn't able to help me find anything. I really wanted to hear the sounds!

    It was one of the first things I searched for online. I was so disappointed.

    What's your wistful hoax?

    mechawatts,

    @futurebird I didn't know this was an idea that existed outside that episode of X-Files with Garry Shandling, but; alas, it has been discredited:
