People seem to forget the chaos of the orange years. The first stuff he implemented resulted in the death of an 80-yr-old woman, who had all her papers, joining her kids who were already citizens, who was put through a long, gruelling interrogation upon arriving, finally sent back, and died before she could come back.

A friend had a lawyer friend who is Canadian, with a visa that enables him to enjoy his Florida home. He's of Italian descent, so dark hair and eyes, he had spend the summer...

Here's something that legit confuses me about algorithmic, machine-learning art like DallE.

When I write a comic book, I describe what I'd like on the page. A wonderful artist then draws it. I don't claim to have drawn the art myself.

So if you give an algorithm a prompt, how are you the artist?

(Not trying to do a gotcha here. I genuinely don't understand.)

@charliejane Not sure what or even if a title is necessary. Tool user? It would be disrespectful to use something like writer. Ai Author is probably technically correct, but makes my skin crawl as a developer, author, and artist.

Yet...

These tools, that we have created, have utility & experts skilled in their utilization maybe do not deserve the knee jerk revulsion they receive.

It is hard to be not the "real" version of anything. A lot of us are well aware yet are quick to pile on.

Imposter Syndrome is ever present in a life of developer. It is constant. If you escape it you become Elon.

When new tech arrives, the entrenched and invested often react dismissively to the usage, spread and interest in the new trend.

Tale as old as time. Eventually the tech is assumed into the whole. Some keep their prejudices as an excuse not to educate themselves often to their own detriment.

This tech is also tech.

When you’ve accepted a job at a new company where they use tech you did not have previous experience with, did you have to take a pay cut or a lower (more junior) title? If not, how did you convince the interviewers of your ability to quickly acquire the new skills?

@ramsey All tech is new tech at first, the list of tech I have quickly absorbed, adapted and successfully deployed, maintained and created is indicative of my value, not my familiarity of the ui placement and command syntax of an app, device, processor or machine.

Your sampling every post not a normalized list of identical amount of replies?

For instance

Post A has 8 replies on tiny server
Post B has 1 replies on large server

is different info than two 8 reply posts, no?

    Things that could help me get around to building a desktop browser engine:

    1. Contribute GTK4 accessibility to LibVTE for me to emulate, we should have that anyways!

    2. Anyone know of a GTK or Qt widget for LibPoppler? Searches are giving me demo code.

    3. Render forms to GTK or Qt widgets, to be incorporated into those desktop browser engines.

    4. Contribute support for OGC's WMS or WMTS protocols into LibShumate.

    1/1.5!
