26/8/23: After testing pretty intensively over recent days & nights, i've decided now to give it a go as my new daily home. There's been many accounts, & a couple of ones, since i decided to venture into the Fediverse last November, but none of them quite captured the full Goldilocks essence of what i desire in a Fedi client. Will this one be it? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

2/9/23: Unfollowed all my hitherto * hashtags, as just too depressing & pointless ๐Ÿ˜ญ

13/9/23: I've broadly enjoyed my UX with Friendica, & admire many of its nice UI features & functions. However, i realised today that many of my posts from my venera.social Instance seem not to show up in my old Mastodon Instance. Whilst i completely recognise that Masto is NOT the Fediverse per se, it's become an important part of it, & i regard it as non-negotiable for my Friendica posts to federate more widely. Hence, from now, til further notice, my primary Fedi home reverts to @MsDropbear .

21/9/21: Ha, flip-around. Have now decided to make aus.social my new daily default [geez i seem to be very flighty!]; @MsDropbear84.

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

@helpers For the past few days i've puzzled over the fact that my browser ()) had stopped displaying for my account, despite me still having them enabled both in Floorp, & in . As Floorp had had an update several days ago, i began wondering if maybe the latest version might have broken its Notifications function. However today i eliminated that possibility by verifying that also my Vivaldi & browsers no longer give me my Friendica DN [&, like Floorp, they certainly used to]. So then i began wondering if maybe @alfred might have recently upgraded their server version of Friendica, & that said putative version was buggy. I decided it would be judicious to take a quick look at my Friendica account Settings, before posting a question about that.

Whoa! Well, i found the problem... but i do not understand how/why. Many months ago soon after creating this account, i had adjusted all my Settings to suit my preferences, & ofc one of those was to enable Desktop Notifications [otherwise, for months, i'd not have been receiving DN in all three browsers, til recently]. However, now, that setting had been lost, ie, it had reverted to default, ie, disabled.

Wtf? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Now that i've re-enabled it, happily i'm once more getting my Friendica DNs. ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ‰

But... how on earth had that setting become disabled recently? ๐Ÿคฏ ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Misogyny is a resilient beast with much to protect, ready to shape shift as its survival demands.Women have been taking a more progressive view on politics all century. It is a growing trend that is repeated in Australia.

This is something to celebrate and encourage. Instead, the commentary has focussed on the more reactionary views of some young men โ€“ which threaten to embolden authoritarians. The pattern is unmistakeable but local specifics vary and matter.

As almost half the world goes to the polls this year, we will learn whether this generation of better educated, more aware and powerful young women are able to tip the results against authoritarian populists elsewhere as well. As Donald Trump regularly demonstrates, belittling women is a marker of this world view.

Australia, in its occasional role as an early marker of global trends, embraced this movement early. In the 2022 election professional women in the teal independents remade the traditionally conservative inner suburban heartland of the Liberal party in their image. The Labor party pre-selected record numbers of women and acknowledged their power to change the agenda.

This was in no small measure the result of the grand lessons of courage and refusal to be shamed, embodied by Grace Tame, Chanel Contos and Brittany Higgins. Their advocacy changed the political terrain โ€“ taking men and women on an empowering journey, changing laws, curricula and expectations.

They have since been battered by the business-as-usual brutality of the Australian political/legal/media machine.

By focussing on the political gap between young women and men, the beacon of hope is obscured. In Australia the data shows that young men are also more progressive than they were two decades ago.

Rich people who claim to be โ€˜representing the real working classโ€™ weirdly mad at idea of letting working class people relax after work

Leader of Opposing Peter Dutton has appeared in Parliament today to try and stop the evil unions working with Labor and the Greens from allowing the working class to disconnect and not respond to their bosses emails when they arenโ€™t being paid to.

โ€œThe modern Liberal Party is the party of the worker,โ€ he said, โ€œand that is why I support making sure workers are forced to be available to work 24/7. Workers are best when they are made to never allowed to not be workers.โ€

โ€œWorking 9 till 5 is woke nonsense. Lazy entitled people think that the workers should be allowed to do other things with their day, but only the Coalition understands that the average quiet Australian worker loves rushing to respond to texts from their bosses at 3am.โ€

โ€œThe elites say workers should have rights, but I know the workers like to be jesters who dance on the command of rich people. Just the other day I even saw a working class person while she cleaned my office, before I had her fired for trying to look me in the eye.โ€

@Susan60@aus.social avatar

Last night I listened to a podcast on Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, https://www.divergentpod.com/blog/ep-29
. Itโ€™s is common amongst ADHDers, & therefore some autistic folk. And I realise that itโ€™s probably been the main influence in my life, the motivator for my masking, the cause of my fawning response that has sometimes made me vulnerable & often made me squirm, & the source of so much grief & anxiety.

Iโ€™ve learned some strategies over the years to help me, both to establish better boundaries & to be more rational in my thinking & less reactive, but have also been led to blame other people for my insecurity, rather than see it as a product of my ADHD (which hadnโ€™t been diagnosed). And guess who was at fault? My parents of course, mainly my mother.

I have no doubt that my mother was AuADHD like me. She had her flaws, but was smart, witty, funny & had a good set of values. She was a bit of a snob, aspirational, but not a victim blamer. Her own health issues arose when she still had one child in primary school, and she died at 45, so she didnโ€™t get the chance to do, learn & reflect as I have over my longer life, (& Iโ€™m not done yet!)

But I know her values from so many discussions about newspaper articles & Phillip Adamsโ€™ column in the Saturday Age. She, like many of her generation, was still shocked by the enormity & depravity of the Holocaust, even though she was only a child during the war. She judged the German people harshly, but could be very warm with individuals of any background. She befriended a Czech refugee family. She admired Don Dunstan, supported drag queens, loved filling in for a friend who worked for a gay intererior designer in his shopโ€ฆ

I wonder what she would have thought when my sister came out as lesbian, & my oldest as non-binary?

And I wonder how she mightโ€™ve responded when I started to explore my own neurodivergence?

Another good reason for being able to quote-boost is that you could add hashtags left off by the original poster - eg for an Australian politics post. As it stands, I can't boost a politics post that doesn't have that hashtag without breaking the rules of my instance.
