Tonight will be an interesting evening. One entrant disqualified, several boycotting rehearsals. Reports on campaigns in motion to inflate the votes for Israel. Massive accounts posting fifteen-year old videos claiming a peaceful pro-Palestinian protest going violent.

United by Music. Yeah.

@BeAware WWE used to do it, but it never made the international broadcasts, so we never got to see it. AEW has commentary going through the pip, so we get the match without breaks, which is nice.

I have a very small number of old white guy car friends, who are civilized enough to at least STFU (most seem at least marginally better-behaved than that, but we're talking low standard here). I make it a point to let them all know I'm gay/queer.

This is the sort of thing that crowd is passing around. Just FYI.

I take it as a nice temperature-taking from scenes-not-this-one. No one is happy with this shit.

A man calls Pizza hut to order a pizza...
CALLER: Is this Pizza Hut?
GOOGLE: No sir, it's Google Pizza.
CALLER: I must have dialed a wrong number, sorry.
GOOGLE: No sir, Google bought Pizza Hut last month.
CALLER: OK. I would like to order a pizza.
GOOGLE: Do you want your usual, sir?
CALLER: My usual? You know me?
GOOGLE: According to our caller ID data sheet, the last 12 times you called you ordered an extra-large pizza with three cheeses, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and meatballs on a thick crust.
CALLER: Super! That’s what I’ll have.
GOOGLE: May I suggest that this time you order a pizza with ricotta, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and olives on a whole wheat gluten-free thin crust?
CALLER: What? I don’t want a vegetarian pizza!
GOOGLE: Your cholesterol is not good, sir.
CALLER: How the hell do you know that?
GOOGLE: Well, we cross-referenced your home phone number with your medical records. We have the result of your blood tests for the last 7 years.
CALLER: Okay, but I do not want your rotten vegetarian pizza! I already take medication for my cholesterol.
GOOGLE: Excuse me sir, but you have not taken your medication regularly. According to our database, you purchased only a box of 30 cholesterol tablets once at Lloyds Pharmacy, 4 months ago.

@FrankauLux @tomjennings Sounds about right.

I'd rather have the Chinese government have my personal details, than American companies.

But if I can chose, I'd rather just keep them to myself.

Jeff Minter is of course a retrogaming legend, but I dare to say that level 5 of our Amiga game Hoi (1992) wins when it comes to psychedelic gaming… 😎

The level is also a very taxing task for Amiga emulators and video compression algorithms. 😁

I don't seem to have enough google-fu to solve this myself: On my installations, is full of logs for . Almost all of them are "ALLOW" entries, which seems completely irrelevant.

Is there a way to get AppArmor not to spam dmesg with messages? I can't find any settings about the amount of log messages in the AppArmor manual page or documentation.

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@jrz No auditd installed (and the documentation says and, so it looks like that would add another log).

I'm leaning towards it being the @Vivaldi DEB having a bad configuration that.

@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

Why, oh why, does anything think it is a good idea to have a talkshow segment in the middle of a ?

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@BeAware treats tagteam matches only as stepping-stones for one-on-one matches later.

This is why is so good, they take matches seriously.

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@BeAware Tagteam matches by actual tag teams I can watch a lot of. Tagteam matches used only to showcase singles wrestlers, not so much.

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@BeAware True. A bit of an odd pairing, but I guess he's simply not in shape to do singles matches any longer, so the alternative is no matches at all.

I'm just glad they didn't hand him the world championship or something stupid. Having him appear is good enough. I just hope can get back to a good singles career afterwards, that's where he belongs.

nafmo,

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_Broadcasting_Corporation :

"The broadcasting corporation is a former European Broadcasting Union associate member, and was alleged to have held negotiations with the European Broadcasting Union to become a full active members. However, Palestine is not a member of the required organisations, and thus does not comply with the criteria."

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@bagder It's been part of my default configuration since 2009. Given the amount of merges and rebases I do at $DAYJOB, I couldn't live without it.

It's one of those things that really ought to be enabled by default.

jwildeboer, to random
@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net avatar

The toughest thing to learn about is to really understand on a fundamental level that a git repo is local-first. Everything you do stays in Texas, so to say. You can restore everything you did wrong locally. It's such a powerful thing. But tough to really grasp for someone my age (rcs, CVS, anyone?)

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@jwildeboer It is not that different from RCS and locally running CVS, though, except adding an extra layer of remote repositories to sync from. Think of upstreams as multiple vendor branches.

TIL about Unicode surrogates. And I wish I never did…

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@root42 Ah, yes, the joys of using UTF-16.

I haven't touched UTF-16 since I switched jobs ten years ago, but trying to get UTF-16 surrogate pairs working in things like font rendering or bi-directional text is still the thing of nightmares.

nafmo,
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@root42 Windows, I assume, then, since GNU uses 32-bit wchar_t?

At least when you are ingesting different encodings, having UTF-16 internally is a good compromise between data size and code readability. The few cases where you have to think of surrogates are few enough (UTF-8, UTF-32 and GB-18030) that you don't have to bother too much.

About YouTube and ad-blockers:

YouTube is owned by Alphabet, aka Google's umbrella corporation. Google in turn was devoured by DoubleClick, the largest advertising company to come out of the 1990s web.

When you use Google, you are feeding the attention monster that is the advertising industry.

We should aim to criminalize behavioural advertising and break up the Google monopoly, not tolerate their shit and work around it by using adblockers.

nafmo, (edited )
@nafmo@vivaldi.net avatar

@cstross Hear, hear.

This is why I use Vivaldi as my browser, and DuckDuckGo as my main search engine. It's hard to avoid Google or Meta products in practical day-to-day life, unfortunately.
