The new release of Thunderbird is now out! It looks awesome, it’s modernized all over, and I’ll give it a good try this week to try and make it my default calendar and email app:

@thelinuxEXP I was super pumped so I fired up my machine and... discovered the flatpak version is still not available and my distros are still on the previous version. I'll stay with for some more time, I guess...

Just saw this community notes on a Twitter ad and it's the first thing Twitter has released since Elon took over that I actually really like!

Letting your users shred your advertisers is a bit of a questionable business tactic, but I respect it from a user-centric perspective :D

@Techaltar too bad I left twitter long time ago...

Thunderbird family: we're looking to include some genuine testimonials on an upcoming redesign of our main website.

➡️ In one sentence, please tell us why you love Thunderbird, OR why you love a certain Thunderbird feature. (Bonus points if it's a Supernova feature!) ⬅️

Thank you so much, we appreciate you!

By replying to this 1) you are awesome and 2) you grant us consent to publish your response outside the Fediverse

@thunderbird I love Thunderbird because is reliable, powerful, extensible, customizable and it is available for every OS.

Much worse than celcius vs. fahrenheit and metric vs. imperial is the fact that we still couldn't agree on a standard date format across the world and I have absolutely no way of knowing whether 04.07 means the 4th of July or the 7th of April.

neffscape,

@Techaltar looks like it's april 2007 to me

So here's a quick life update:

  1. Yep, I've relocated back to the USA, and I'll probably be based in California for the time being.

  2. I just submitted my last invoice for marketing services to @thunderbird... because beginning tomorrow I'm a full-time employee of MZLA Technologies Corporation, and no longer a contractor! 🎉 🎉

(I'll even have my own team, woot!)

  1. Moving 6000 miles across the world is a lot to process, and I may not be as present here until I find some stability.

@killyourfm I hope you and Lana are both ok, is she coming with you I hope. We'll miss you here in Europe guys. But hey! Great news for you and @thunderbird!

This Apple Vision thing looks like it could be interesting in some use cases, but no one is ever wearing that thing in an office or in public.

Like seriously, it’s just as ridiculous as any other VR headset.

neffscape,
@neffscape@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxEXP @penguintech1 I like the idea of a bigger screen or multiple screens in my space, but living with a snorkle on my face all day long? No way!An for $3400? Sounds ridiculous to me.

@killyourfm I actually think an autopilot feature could be more useful in a Linux distro. Imagine asking "install Libreoffice" and it just install it without knowing the command line commands or firing up your software manager. Also, imagine asking: "why my damn NVIDIA card doesn't work correctly" and receiving actual proposal to fix things? I think it would be brilliant.

Sometimes it's REALLY tough to keep a secret. But now that the secret's out...

I'm very late to the party, but yesterday I watched episode 9 of the first season of and I'm almost panicking because I'm approaching the end of the season and I don't want it to finish. I didn't expect Andor to become my favourite since the original triology, but I really like the darker vibe of the series. For me an absolute masterpiece of a TV show. Must watch!

Apparently, there are people who are happy that they won’t be able to install optional third party stores on iOS because they don’t live in the EU.

Like, why?! “Oh I’m sure glad this option to get more apps that Apple might have not allowed doesn’t come to MY phone!”

neffscape,
@neffscape@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxEXP it's part of the apple customer ideology. You don't pay to have options, because "apple knows better" . You pay for apple to make the best decisions on your behalf. You pay for the best phone, the best laptop, the best apps. And if you believe in this shit, you'll probably end up as a pretty happy and loyal user, embedded in apple's ecosystem. This only works because apple gadgets are fashionable, and people think you're a better person if you show off your iPhone pro in public.

Apparently, Arch finally got GNOME 44! Well, 44.1, so you’re directly up to date.

And I’m wondering: is it a policy for Arch now, to wait for the first point update before shipping a new version of a desktop?

neffscape,
@neffscape@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxEXP yeah, I was disappointed at first. Then I discovered that GNOME is mantained by a single mantaine in Arch, and that's how things go when you're an upstream community mantained distro and can't pay someone to do the job. I wonder if Manjaro could contribute more upstream as Canonical does with debian.

Still looking for my "forever Linux laptop." The one I'll put ALL my stickers on.

At one point I thought it would be the @system76 Oryx Pro but 17-inchers are big and & power hungry.

Then I wanted it to be my Apple M1, but app compatibility (ARM) has me a little concerned.

I need all day battery life, great display, MODEST dedicated GPU or strong integrated GPU.

Should I just do what everyone else has been doing and buy a ? The T-14 looks pretty sweet.

neffscape,
@neffscape@fosstodon.org avatar

@killyourfm @system76 I love my Thinkpad but my model (an "old" 2015 T450s model) isn't comparable to the newest machines.
