How is Kirk giving a log about feeling helpless in the middle being helpless?

It's been a long time since I have seen this, and there may be other episodes, but this TOS ep seems like a pretty good early model for the Department of Temporal Investigations.

I priced out a new sectional for my living room and holy shit the price of new furniture has gone up.

richard,
@richard@disabled.social avatar

@evacide I was just noticing that everything has gone up. Of course, groceries have been too much for some time now, but even HiRes digital albums on have been more expensive, and I am supposed be getting a discount with my Sublime membership. Books haven't gone up too much, at least not in the last few years.

Dunno which Churchill he's talking about. How is this guy still considered a historian??

David Starkey: "When human rights were invented by Churchill, they were intended to protect the individual against the state. The left has redesigned them to protect minorities against the majority."

@fkamiah17 Um, the rights of the minority should be part of the state? Did I get wrong?

The more I see Lisa Kaltenegger in the media the more I get the feeling she is going to end up with egg on her face.

And I am confused, some outlets are saying she works with @setiinstitute, but other media outlets don't mention it at all.

Regardless, she is jinxing it for the rest of us.

Seeing videos of protestors in so many campuses being abused by coward pig cops . I am so in love with all these brave college students. I am not surprised professors don't have the guts to join then. At least it is very rare that one does. Security in is a powerful drug. Hi all! I'm still in a newsletter subscription push mode -- with the demise of the bird app, it's gotten really hard to get the word out about projects like this that don't have an internal algorithm to help people find it.

If you like , , , or just want to support a woman of color doing STEM stuff -- please subscribe! Ad Astra is a weekly newsletter that tells you what's going on in space science and spaceflight.

I've added a link to this page to most of my websites. It is the very detailed, poignant, and a sobering wake-up call every aspiring writer needs. It should be read widely.

Okay, , if nothing this should be a call to make self-publishing significantly more professional.

There needs to be a new system, that is for certain. A writer controlled system.

"The head of Indian IT company Tata Consultancy Services has said artificial intelligence will result in “minimal” need for call centres in as soon as a year, with AI’s rapid advances set to upend a vast industry across Asia and beyond"

richard,
@richard@disabled.social avatar

@impactology No disrespect intended, but people have been saying this for a long time. And I am aware of the projected growth of AI and its projected abilities, but I don't think it will be replacing call centers any time soon. At least not in the U.S., not by companies that want to keep their customers happy. People want to talk to people. That is the end of the story. And yes, despite that reality AI might still replace call centers, but that is likely 20 years down the road.

So far pretty good, just my phone isn't ideal to edit 8k videos, but here's 1 photo in 3 different views

Same photo but showing a pub & the local church
360 view showing everything that was captured in the single photo

So you know when mission development is just taking waaaaaay toooooo loooooong, so you skip straight to the movie? 🍿

richard,
@richard@disabled.social avatar

@elizabethtasker Wow. First I am hearing of this. I have a question. It may be an obvious question and it may be a no-nothing question, but while JAXA is at it why can't get those Mars samples NASA have given up on being able to get and is seeking outside help for? It seems JAXA is prepared for the mission.

richard,
@richard@disabled.social avatar

@elizabethtasker Yes, I realize JAXA is going to Mar's moon, but since it has the ability to do that, it seems to the casual observer you guys to be putting Mars on the drawing board. Sorry if I am imposing.

An Indigenous ecologist on why we need to stop and listen to save the planet

"How would you explain Indigenous research methodology?

It is rooted in reciprocity, and respect, and relationality — the three Rs as we call them. So when we're approaching research, we're working respectfully on the land and we're working in reciprocity."
