Richard_Littler, A while back, I re-created a graphic that featured in Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was a very minor graphic in the film's cornucopia of special effects but I've always liked it. My original version of the BBC 12 logo contained a couple of errors (including the typeface), so I thought it was time to update it...

saveriobran,
cliffwade, I'm looking for a graphics designer that can make me a new logo for my SeerOfSouls.com wordpress site.
This is the current logo below that was made with AI sadly enough.
I'd like to find someone that if I tell the story behind the name they can come up with something original and unique that will fit the color scheme and look of the WP theme I have currently.
I'm willing to pay for this, but I want something really good.
If you're interested, please let me know!
cliffwade, I ask that only those that are serious about making something reach out to me. I will answer any questions that you might have.
I'm also looking for variations such as with the site name and without the sight name and various sizes for various things across all platforms.
TheAnimator, Reminder that paper submissions for i3D 2024 are due the 5th of January. I am also seeking sponsors. If you aren’t in a position to approve sponsorship yourself, I’d be more than happy to email your company if you can provide me with a contact point 😁 https://i3dsymposium.org/2024/ #i3D2024 #graphics #gpu #rendering
lisyarus, Thinking about having a little open-source adventure with WebGPU before committing to this API for my next game project. Also thinking about the fact that I've never implemented any real-time GI.
So, #graphics folks, what's your favourite & easiest realtime GI method these days?
meuns, @lisyarus you could take a look at path of exile 2 approach : https://80.lv/articles/radiance-cascades-new-approach-to-calculating-global-illumination/
Onsequitur, @lisyarus I've been somewhat curious about radiance cascades:
https://80.lv/articles/radiance-cascades-new-approach-to-calculating-global-illumination/
I envision an implementation in screen space combined with:

I've been considering a similar project, Rust + Webgpu, GI renderer.
ChanceyFleet, The latest version of Photos in Windows 11 lets you send obtrusive backgrounds right to hell. Edit Photo — Background — Remove — Apply — Save Options (copy to clipboard, overwrite old image or save as new) — buh-bye. As a Blind technologist i constantly need to chase away background clutter before #graphics can work for #tactile / #Blind perception, whether i’m embossing, using swellform or 3d printing. Sighted people, you'll probably like this too.
matt, @ChanceyFleet Does this mean that you already have some way of converting photos to vector graphics?
ChanceyFleet, @matt This method works with most file formats. Often i’m not dealing with a photo (unless i’m 3d printing a relief, most photos are too complex). More likely, i’ve selected something that by all rights SHOULD be good for tactile, like a Keith Haring painting or some sort of clip art or a mandala — or something i asked generative AI for. Simplifying photos is a whole other thing that has not been solved yet.
janriemer, This is genius:
vong | The first compute-centric vector graphic video game
https://github.com/simbleau/vong
I think zooming should be an explicit feature in the game (which triggers some behaviour/state change in the game besides zooming).🙃
lizzard, @janriemer interesting idea! (Just remember to keep it accessible, some people need that zoom in order to engage at all)
kroltan, @elementbound @janriemer Compute as in "compute shaders", as in not using a CPU rasterizer I think.
Something like Adobe Flash was already vector-based at interactive framerates (mostly lol), but the rendering was all on the CPU, partly because shaders weren't as versatile as nowadays (the so-called "compute shaders" basically did not exist), so it was highly resolution-dependent.
Modern vector renderers often also "just" convert the vector data to a more GPU-friendly vector data (traditional triangle meshes, which GPUs are quite good at) and stop around there, but that means if you zoom far enough you'll see that it's all polygons with straight sides.
But I'm talking outta my ass here, I have not studied Vello to know what they precisely mean.
gpuopen, On vacation 🦃 or working 🧑💻 this week?
Either way, if you (or someone you know) would like to get started with #graphics programming, the #AMD Game Engineering team is excited to share their top tips with you 🌟
We'd love to add your contributions to make the blog even more valuable!
Feel free to DM us, or reply to this post with your top tip for graphics beginners.
If it's accepted, we'll publish it on the blog and credit your handle (after confirming via DM).
ataylor, @gpuopen Write renderers! Multiple of them!
Write a software rasterizer. Write a pathtracer. Learn GL and write a forward-shaded renderer. Write a deferred renderer. Go back and do the first one again now that you've learned some things.
There's a tendency to focus on Doing Things Right the first time, and that's not how learning anything works. Writing a bunch of incomplete, imperfect renderers in a wide variety of styles will teach you more than writing one well.
newin, @gpuopen learned quite a bit through the renderhell books on my side: https://simonschreibt.de/gat/renderhell-book1/ but my main tip would be to just talk with peers. Learning from someone is just so much more efficient in an endless rabbithole of technicalities and niche techniques to learn from/with someone.
darkcisum, What would you intuitively call a function that limits the following part in a shape outline, the more extrem you make the shape?
Shape with weird behavior at extreme angles
Shape with a limit set and no weird movement

wmd, So today's adventure was going to a p5js workshop by @cc_utrecht waa a bit crowded for me, but the workshop was nice. was largely a focus point for me to spend a day doing graphics coding without get overwhelmed with options.
p5js seems easy to start with and it has webgl support, but I'm a bit curious about performance. 100% cpu to move and change some elipses seems a bit much for 2023. wondering what's easy to use and more efficient...
NopeForge, Due to the pressure from a company that trademarked a common word from the dictionary, we were forced to rename our project.
Nope Foundry is now called Nope Forge.
Despite the name change, our mission doesn't change: we're doing our best to provide a free and open source cross-platform framework for motion design, 2D composition and visual effects.

pinpox, Can anyone recommend a 2d #graphics library for #zig?
Looking for something like https://github.com/jackdbd/zig-cairo but in maintained, that lets me draw pixels/lines/circles and export an image.
pinpox,
lhp, @pinpox You could also focus on binding only the functions of cairo you actually use. You don't need to revive the entire zig-library, a few wrapper functions in your projects should suffice.

almibe, Learning the basics of graphic design for things like web apps and documentation/infographics has been on my todo list for a while. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for free or inexpensive (under $200) courses, books, websites, youtubers, etc. for beginner level introductions to graphic design?

airwhale, While the material is a few years old, the principles of what good graphic design is and how to learn it is well expressed by mr John McWade. He's got a few good books out and a delightful teaching style in his video classes on LinkedIn Learning.
Sad to see some of his previous domains lapsed and taken over by crypto scams, so be aware of this.
