I can’t imagine a shot that more perfectly captures the sheer spontaneous joy of childhood than this one by Massachusetts photographer William Van Beckum entitled “Favourite Puddle”.
"Hey comrades, over this #holiday period, remember there's no point trying to fix your racist uncle who doesn't believe in vaccines or climate change. Sit at the kids' table and radicalise them instead. It's way more effective and lots more fun."
It's pretty easy to do so too! My nephew was making a shitty joke about locking someone up in the "insane asylum".
I stopped him and told him "Hey, I love you and care about you, but I want to let you know that joking about people being in an asylum hurts my feelings. I have many of my best friends who have needed to go to a mental hospital because they were in pain and they needed help. If I didn't have the love and support of my family and my partner, I probably would have needed to go to a mental hospital several times over the years too. It hurts my feelings when you make jokes about my friends who were hurting and needing help".
I've not heard him make a single joke about the insane asylum ever since.
If there are any #parents out there. I want to give you this.
The greatest gift my parents ever gave me was DIRECT COMMUNICATIONS on all social topics in life. Anything I ever asked about, we would have a full, rational discussion on what it is and why it was important.
Money. Sex. (I knew that "the secks" makes the babies. "How do babies get in there?" was my question.) Death. Education. If I asked, I got an in-depth explanation. Nothing was hidden.
One thing I’ll add to the conversation, as we homeschooled (secular) and we tripped over this one a few times:
Sometimes they just want a base answer, not the history, the causes leading up to, or to work the answer out! 😀 They’ll let you know if they want more.
I read that the UK just had what may be its first baby #beaver born in centuries. The beaver is Canada's national animal and they are thriving here now. BTW a baby beaver's cry sounds almost identical to a human baby, and this little one was quite a crybaby!
More States Are Allowing Child Support Payments to Reach #Children
Since a ProPublica investigation found that states were seizing child support headed to #families as reimbursement for the mother having received welfare, at least six states have changed their policies. Others are debating doing the same.
Read our investigation from 2021 that revealed how states were demanding highly sensitive info from single mothers and then using that info to track down fathers. But the child support payments seized by the states never made it to the kids:
