"The idea for the film (Video Violence [1987]) came about one afternoon when a young mother with her children asked if the film I Dismember Mama contained any sex. Cohen informed her that he was unsure about the film's sexual content but that he knew it contained graphic violence. The woman decided to rent the film, telling Cohen that as long as the film were devoid of sex, she considered it appropriate viewing for her children." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Violence

I was there with my 2600 in the and I played the hell outta this game. Looking back, it was...okay. My top is still Yar's Revenge. I'll die on that buzzing, psychedelic hill.
Anyway - Pitfall was released on this date, way back in the beforetimes.

37 years ago today (April 19) in 1987, the first Simpsons short "Good Night" aired on The Tracey Ullman show. I wasn't watching (I was 7), but I was watching when the Simpsons aired as its own series a couple years later.

They say today is Figure Friday. So, let's go to a tiny figure I have on my desk.

When I graduated kindergarten, this little puppy was sitting on the top of the cake. All through my childhood and into college, it followed me on my dresser the entire time.

Since I entered the workforce after graduating with my Masters, it has been on my desk since. It's a good reminder, I totally was a "Super Grad" from kindergarten. I could tie my shoes and everything.

Hope you have a great Friday and weekend.

I should be promoting my new album but I got distracted recreating sounds for songs I might want to cover live. I'm guessing many of you will recognize this one right off the bat. It's not perfect but I think I got pretty darned close!

I'm using a sample from a Novation Nova which is a 1999 synth so I'm assuming that patch was in turn a recreation of the original. Which I think was an OBX, but don't quote me on that.

A screen recording of a computer running Ableton Live and playing a single MIDI track arpeggio. Caption reads, "Pop Quiz: What song has this classic synth arp?"

The A-Team from the 1980s is my favorite TV show, and they had these big hardcover 'Annual' books they'd put out for it. I just discovered the one from 1984 is at the Internet Archive, and if you log in, you can 'borrow' it for an hour (and every hour it resets) and flip through all the scanned pages. It's totally wild.

Some screenshots are below, but check out the full thing here, once you log in: https://archive.org/details/isbn_9780723567172/page/24/mode/2up

When did “the 80’s” start? 🤔

I like this answer from Reddit 👇

"I see five distinct parts:

80 - 81: Fast Times at Ridgemont High era, rock was popular, New Wave just showing up. J Geils Band, Asia, Billy Squier.

82 - 83: New Romantics era, New Wave becomes more widely accepted. Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Missing Persons.

84 - 85: Monsters of Pop era. Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cindy Lauper.

86 - 87: Stock Aitken Waterman era, where pop became a bit overproduced. Bananarama, Pet Shop Boys, Cutting Crew.

88 - 89: Hair Band era, where pop was taken over by teased hair and electric guitars. Poison, Def Leppard, Guns N Roses.

(Of course, the R&B charts had their own eras, and had very successful crossovers in every era, from Lionel Richie to Janet Jackson.)"

I have another one for and . This one often comes to mind for me, too. The third one is missing the 'ing' but I'm still counting it, especially since Dave played for Tom and they were friends. I love the SHIT outta all THREE of these songs.
