THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. Storms are producing wide wind damage similar to a derecho. Treat this storm like a big #tornado!
I’m in London this week. In Victoria Park in Hackney the greenery is reaching its peak. The verdant nature of these boldly planted and laid out parks is key to providing the ‘lungs of London’.
You can read more about the Park in the ALT below…
This BBC graph of average sea surface temperatures since 1979 should have (but hasn't) spurred our politicians into action to actually do something. Clearly there was a tipping point in May 2023, which has certainly been evident in the UK due to the last 12 months of even more unusual weather.
Where are our leaders when we actually need them? We need a general election, a hung parliament, and some #Green representation in government.
The Caldeirão Verde waterfall during a really heavy downpour, which was probably one of the most tropically impressive views in Madeira, Portugal. 🇵🇹 This waterfall is 100 meters high, and the water flows into a huge basin. My entire photo equipment was totally soaked, miraculously nothing was damaged!
Just in case you weren't sure quite how far climate change has already gone, the EU climate monitoring service notes that for the 11th month running last month (April) was the hottest on record.
As Hayley Fowler, (NewcastleU), asks:
'At what point do we declare we've lost the battle to keep temperatures below 1.5? ... [I think] we've already lost that battle & we really need to think very seriously about keeping below 2C & reducing our emissions as fast as we can'!
To actually accomplish a green transition we (the world) needs to spend around $9 trillion a year.... well that's just not affordable, say climate sceptics.
You might say that, but lets have a look at the money we were prepared to pony up to deal with the pandemic.
While a more focused threat & certainly causing some fiscal issues, when required the money can be found.
(Don't get me started on fossil fuels subsidies!)
So its not the money stopping the green transition!
