Today’s Resolution Foundation report 'Electric Dreams' highlights the effect continuing high interest rates will have on Britain's green transition. The Bank of England should take note.

Higher interest rates could add £29 billion to household energy bills so Britain needs a plan to deliver an energy investment surge that protects lower income households • Resolution Foundation

@junesim63 this article by a researcher from the University of Bath makes a similar point for , but less toned-down

The gist is, the way capitalism (finance) is structured is making sure no renewables transition occurs, despite a fall in generation costs. The solution is gov led and funded transition

The only difference is the can afford either path, but Pak can only afford green

After over 11cm (about 4.34 inches) of rain yesterday, area flooding in lower parts of the city, causing a few isolated and hard-to-repair-quickly power outages to small pockets of residents and businesses. There were a few "glitches" as power was re-routed to help restore things. Long story short, three power outages since yesterday afternoon, two of them overnight, and I only know this because my told me so via alerts. Fortunately with the batteries only the non-critical-load circuits were down briefly. Weird seeing all the neighbors' lights go off on the outside cameras, then come back on.

So glad to have and to keep things up and op as the gets increasingly intense each season.

Understanding 's electricity conundrum

"The ‘rooftop conundrum’ is another issue, where increased tariffs have spurred demand for rooftop panels, leading to a decline in demand from the national grid.

...contribute to the ‘capacity payment conundrum’, ..purchasing agreements obligate the gov to make payments even when plants are not generating electricity."

If we can transform excess solar-power into hydrogen or methanol at the building or neighborhood level, we avoid overloading the electrical grid by storing the sun locally, without adding CO2 to our atmosphere or building expensive gird battery systems. The tech needs to be shrunk and made rugged. But then there could be a shed on the corner where fuel is created and used locally.

Brilliant article on the challenges facing transition to renewables, and why its unlikely

"while the cost of renewable power is now lower than that of fossil fuels, renewables are not a profitable business. The particularities of the .. market structure are the causal factors here... Making sure that capital gets its pound of flesh has crippled the country."

nee !
das ist einfach nur schlecht gemacht.

Residential is difficult to access for lower-income Americans because of its high upfront cost and because less affluent people tend to rent their homes or live in apartment buildings.
