Our names come in all shapes! Both #fediverse projects #Streams and #Kitsune now support Unicode usernames! This is something I have been talking about since I first joined the fedi in 2017 so I am very excited about this. I can't wait till I get a mention from someone with a username like @王李 or @դմիտրիԹբիլիսի@ժայռեր
I love #trains ! & I love #InterRail !! These are impressions from today’s trip to #ripe88 : tea ceremony in the Dutch train, German clouds (with #music notation electricity lines! ), #Polish brunch with additional Indonesian snacks, while reading a book about Native #American language: collectivist culture & animism grammer ! (There is no word for please: food is meant to be shared )
Thanks Evan, there's a bit to digest there, some of which I agree with, and some of which I don't, between what both you and the OtherEvan had to offer.
It's good to get this stuff right out in the open, especially as the Fediverse is currently undergoing yet another paradigmatic shifts, perhaps an evolutionary step, but certainly, a complete game changer from much of the perspective offered in the Evan <==> Evan Essays ;)
I keep having dreams about doing a Mega Man Legends charity stream again. I had a great time doing it the last three times, but nobody donated during any of them. I can do better this time, but I feel like I'll need someone's help. Hmmmm…
#askfedi
Stream VOD is here for the Psychedelic YTPs stream! Featuring an unrelated but very fun #KatieBritt video mockery at the end. Not for the faint of eyes or photo sensitive, there's some rather excessive video effects in some of these.
And a lot of Sponge Bob for reasons, and shirtless King of Hyrule. Enjoy!
Gaia unravels two ancient streams of stars in the Milky Way
The two streams, named Shakti and Shiva, helped form the infant Milky Way. Both are so ancient that they likely formed before even the oldest parts of our present-day galaxy’s spiral arms and disc.
This image shows the location and distribution of Shakti (yellow) and Shiva (blue) stars throughout the #MilkyWay.
For what seems like ages .... (about 6-8 weeks), I did not want to touch anything on my yunohost mastodon app, because the webinterface was broken, but the barebones settings were accessible. And I could still toot via my mobile app.
Finally, the interface is up and running again, but I fear a mastodon-move will be in the works, as I find the yunohost masto version very dodgy and not well maintained.
Any tips on how I can install my own server and keep all data of this version in the new one?
@leonieke@meneer why not do a trial run of #Hubzilla or its successor #Streams ? Available in Yunohost, I believe. Nowhere as complicated to admin, and compatible with many protocols, not just ActivityPub.
Or #Epicyon, which is said to be even less complicated.
Mike Macgirvin, the long-time developer that brought us #Friendica, #Hubzilla, #Streams, and the #Zot protocol, is bringing his most powerful concept to the rest of the #Fediverse: Nomadic Identity.
If you haven't heard, sadly, #ChirpSocial, one of the popular #ActivityPub “groups” platform, is shutting down “probably” on February 29th.
In an email they sent to admins, the owner and developer can no longer support https://chirp.social financially as they failed to find a new job after they were laid off by #Google last year.
This reminds us the importance of having a built-in groups feature, and one where the groups feature actually federates.
Back in 2008, when the #Fediverse was born, we did have a built-in federated groups in #Laconica / #StatusNet (today known as #GNUsocial). We used bang (!) instead of at (@). A built-in groups feature is more stable as established instances can host them.
Today, we have #Friendica and #Hubzilla (as well as #Streams-based instances) to fill in that, as groups is a built-in feature in those software products. It's just a matter of finding an instance that's open to hosting groups for any topic for the ActivityPub protocol.
That said, any Friendica, Hubzilla, Streams-based instances you suggest for groups?
