This is your reminder that the smoke from forest fires is not just tree smoke.
It's smoke from burnt buildings, burnt vehicles, burnt animals, and everything the fire has destroyed in its path.
Check air quality often (several times a day) and be prepared to protect yourself and loved ones, including your pets, if need be.
"Compared with the period from 1901 to 1960, cool season rainfall in the last two decades has dropped by 20%. Very wet years have almost completely disappeared.
About half of this change has been blamed on rising greenhouse gas #emissions, which could be an underestimate, according to one study led by Bureau of Meteorology scientists."
This not AI, this was painstakingly put together by me, a while back when I was home sick from work & upset by the news. DM me if you'd like a print of this. It's not up on the website or #ArtisansCooperative page yet, but I have Art of Where print on demand & can get it to you quickly (w/out the website lettering, of course) in whatever size you prefer.
"The #US is spending billions to reduce #ForestFire risks – we mapped the hot spots where treatment offers the biggest payoff for people and #climate"
"In particular, we found that forests in California, New Mexico and Arizona were more likely to lose a large portion of their carbon in a #wildfire and also have a tough time regenerating because of stressful conditions."
Rain in NorCal. Early. Measurable. May be enough to dampen or extinguish the fires. I imagine Cal Fire will take credit for putting them out on their annuals. #wildfires#ForestFire#forestfireindustrialcomplex

Sicily travel warning: Wildfires force evacuation of tourists and transport disruption
The heatwave that has been scorching southern Europe has increased the risk of fires and heat-related deaths in Italy.
Wildfires have been raging across the Italian island of #Sicily, spread by strong winds and arid conditions.
The blazes have forced residents and tourists to evacuate and caused severe public transport disruption.
#Palermo Airport, which services the island’s capital, was forced to close early on Tuesday morning after fires broke out nearby.
Catania Airport, where an accidental fire damaged a terminal building earlier this month, remains partially closed leading to fears of huge economic losses from tourism.
I think they are crumbling under the pressure. Maybe skip the fireworks? If only to save the Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources from losing the last shreds of their sanity.
@futurebird well, #Wildfire / #ForestFire risks are the reason there are more than 6 months were fires and smoking outside of secured premises is basically illegal on several Mediterranean Islands.
Experienced a forest fire for the first time on Thursday near our cottage in Loviisa. Most likely a spark from the chains of a forest machine ignited a small area of shrubs and moss. Luckily the weather was still, which slowed the spreading along with the timely work of the firefighters. We had to go fire watch until the rains came on Friday night – this video was recorded at 3 on Friday morning. Sound on for birds!
The increasing proliferation of the use of "y'all" on the internet in daily parlance leaves me no choice for rebellion except to start using the Northern Ontario equivalent, "youse". So, I hope youse are all staying clear of the forest fires, that youse have your asthma medication nearby if applicable, and I hope youses' mast cells hold tough through this. ;-)
